Dogs of VolNation and other pets that are inferior to Dogs

When my Dad would sit on the back porch my rock-hound would drop her rock near him hoping he'd throw it for her. He'd ignore her and sip on his beer. She'd nudge the rock a little closer. He'd keep ignoring her. Finally she'd set the rock on his foot and he'd throw it for her. Then the entire process would start all over again.

My wife and I are actively looking for a new dog. We want an indoor small(ish) sized dog with a low maintenance coat, that would be good with kids. Any recommendations?

Note: Breeds we've eliminated from the list...

Poodles
Chihuahuas
Beagles
Shih Tzus
Pomeranians
Miniature pinschers
Pugs
Bulldogs
What kind of communist doesn't want a beagle?

I'm biased, but an Aussie is the best dog I've ever had. Super smart and loyal as they come.

Dude lounging in the sun, he's got pretty bad pneumonia so he's getting 3 weeks of antibiotics, good for me is that it's pretty easy to trick him into eating pills.

Well. Today was a sad day. My wife's and I first dog when we got married. A jack russel Terrior passed away last night in his sleep. We found him this morning. He was a year old when we got him. He was almost 13. Spunky loyal dog. He will be missed.

Man that's a bummer RV.... I'm sorry to hear that. Jack Russell's are awesome dogs

Sympathy, it's hard to lose one.

Carl, hope your dad is still doing well. Still praying for him.

What about with young kids? I have two boys, 6 and 2.

I have three Morkies. They are small lap dog mixes of a Yorkie and a Maltese. They are excellent with everyone they know especially kids. They will let you know when anyone or anything(squirrel) is in the yard. In the picture the dad(Duke) is on the left, their girl(Bella) in the middle, and the mom(Dutchess) on the right. Dutchess is actually called a party Morkie for the black, brown, and grey spots on her. Very smart and loving dogs.

I'll add that my Boxer mix is the most loyal, sweetest dog in the history of planet Earth.

My new pup will be ready in 6 more weeks. Getting him from a Blue Heeler breeder near Lafayette, LA. We picked the name Remy LeBeau.

No personal experience. I wouldn't really worry about the six year old, but of the two I know I would imagine there would be a "breaking in" period with the two year old. For both the dog and the kid.

I'd do some Googling.

And he's American St T? Or St Bull T?

She's an American Staffordshire Terrier according to her DNA test. 💯 too, not mixed with anything.

So while pits technically have thier own breed now, she's basically a pit as far as most people are concerned.

Dandie Dinmont. Terrier, near extinction, not many around the world.

However, there is a breeder near Nashville and my sister just got one. We had one growing up and if you want a lovable lap dog with great demeanor and terrier blood lines (which can be tough for some owners they are strong willed dog) this is a great dog for kids.

Droopy the cartoon character was based off of them, so imagine their disposition.

Here is her new baby.

Wow, I think I just found the other half of my Boxer mix. How does that tail treat you and your walls?

I hate to hear that. It's so sad when they go.

BTW, did you consider adopting? I highly, highly recommend it. We love our dog so much. Got her at 7 months and potty training took 2 days. So many good dogs out there need adopting and so many pure breds have health problems. Why not get a dog that looks unlike any other?

If it were solely up to me, the Beagle would have been my choice. However my wife doesn't want the loud barking/howling that goes along with owning one. I think they're awesome dogs though!

Check out a Harrier. Sweetest dog I ever had. Got for our daughter and it was a perfect match. Will definitely protect your yard from communist squirrels. Although her big sister could easily convince her she really could climb trees after them subversive squirrels.

Just had to post more pics of my dogs... lol

Adopting is the way to go. We rescued both of our pure bred German Shepherds as puppies. They are rock solid as companions and protection for our family.

Nyssa- 100lb GSD protection and service trained. She is the perfect family/protection dog.

Ruger - Is still a work in progress. 125lb knucklehead with social and separation issues. Continuing his training, but he has major baggage from his first idiot owners.
