Dogs of VolNation and other pets that are inferior to Dogs

Scrappy always has some digging project going on, digging for voles, digging for hibernating frogs, or whatever else she smells buried down in the dirt. No slowing this old girl down, and now she has a new digging accomplice, miss Lola. :thud:

My old boy is pretty sick. We spent New Years Eve in the dog ER.
For those of you that made the call to put your dog down, when do you make that call?

I saw somebody that had asked their vet what he'd do if it was his dog. Dogs are awesome. Sorry to hear this.

The day my vet, in whom I trust very much, told me his quality of life was quickly deteriorating.

It was done two days later. After a smörgåsbord fit for a King.

By the way. That's what I did, as you asked. I believe you will know what to do, and when.

Very sorry to hear this. I know how hard it is.

Sweet Lucy

I ended up bringing my beagle to a 24 hour clinic at 2 am. I just knew that he was about at the end of the road, and that he needed me to suck it up and make a very hard decision.

I cried like a baby in the parking lot for an hour afterwards. Miss that dude.

Dogs truly are man's best friend....

What type of dog is Lucy?

We don’t know exactly because she’s a rescue doggy. Mostly German Shepherd as you can tell, but she’s a mix. She’s pretty small for a shepherd. We’ve had her 8 years and think she’s close to 12 years old. She is the best dog, so sweet. We have 6 grandkids under 10 years old and she’s very loving and gentle with them.

She’s a good looking dog.
My favorite breed is a Feist. Very smart very sweet dogs. Thought she might be a Feist Mix of some type.

I was close to that last night and I'm glad I waited until this morning when my vets office opened. My dog had a couple of seizures New Years eve and I took him to the ER where they proceeded to dope him up pretty good and sent him home with some anti-seizure drugs. Long story short those drugs really messed him up and he couldn't walk steady and was just really out of it and constantly wandered around and fell down.

After taking him to his regular vet this morning I feel a lot better about his prognosis and end of life plans. He certainly doesn't have a lot of time left, but his vet laid out the options and I feel a lot better knowing that when his time comes she will come to my house and let him die at home.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for mentions the vet coming to the house to do that. There is no way I could make the 45 minute drive back home. I will be a mess. I’m struggling on when is the right time. I know it’s coming soon. I’m just struggling with it.

This is an area where my wife is stronger than I am. Out of all of the dogs we have given homes to over the years, there have been close to a dozen or so dogs that we have had to euthanize, and she makes that last ride to the vet with them every time, holds them and comforts them until they're gone and we grieve for them together. I don't know how she does it, but I'm thankful that she is able to.

I know I can't support this idea Biblically, but I'm convinced that all of our dear departed dogs are waiting for us in our mansion in Heaven. We're gonna have a house full of dogs in our eternity, just as we have had all our married life. :)

Some who are already there (IMO):

I said goodbye to my faithful friend today.
I feel incredible remorse for myself, but I also feel relief for him.
What a conflicted painful thing to experience.

Sorry to hear that..... my goofy little dog is just like one of my children to me.
