Don Devoe speaks out about Pearl

Lying got Bruce busted. Not cheating. Very different.

I'd rather have a coach that lies and wins than one that's a saint and a loser.

I beg to differ sir.

He got busted for lying ABOUT cheating.

IMHO - that's worse.

Not that I feel good about it. It actually makes me feel terrible.

Even if fans support Pearl, they better be ready to accept the flames that are going to thrown this way. Everyone has the right to state their opinions. No matter what, we cannot deny that Pearl cheated and lied to the NCAA. If Devoe feels he did things the right way, he has every right to complain about coaches that have sullied his profession, especially at a place he coached.

If you get caught in a lie, especially with pictures of the event involved, you are a pretty big loser.

What does being a loser have to do with it? It seems like this whole Pearl situation is an example of the snow ball affect. He started with a small lie, and he couldn't stop after that. I hate it for him, but I hate it even more for UT.

I couldn't care less if the AD fired Pearl today and burned his house to the ground.

But to say Pearl "marred" the program is ridiculous. Frankly, having sanctions and retroactively losing games due to inelidgible players looks worse than lying about a cookout.

He lied and covered his tracks. Got busted. He didn't have a star recruit drive across town to have someone else take an SAT exam for him.

I support Pearl. They can flame away to their hearts content. Just as I don't have any bearing on what happens to Pearl neither do they.

This is a good point.

The only way to make this feel right to me is to convince myself that we aren't cheating as bad as all of the rest of those guys out there.

I don't know and follow BB as much to know if that is in fact true.

When I read the NOV, however, it is clear that CBP broke the NCAA's rules and had his entire staff doing it with him.

It just feels dirty and it makes me sad.

Some of you guys live in a bubble. Devoe didn't lie about any part of his program for 13 years? Please. Very naive thought.

I dont give a crap if he lied or not. He is a bball coach not a preacher. So yall enjoyed those years of bball when the team couldnt even dribble the ball. You will regret firing bruce if it happens

I would do. But I'd rather not have a coach that lies, can't coach for a season, and will have a much tougher path afterwords.

Without a question, the penalty phase will determine Bruce Pearl's future in coaching.

It just seems like a stupid risk to wait for that phase, considering the fact that our penalties could be worse, and it looks worse for the program. Not to mention we would have less time to make a better hire.

Exactly. At some point, a decision has to be made that is in the best interest of the University, not Pearl.

The problem is that this is situation is about Pearl, not anyone else. Pearl made these mistakes himself, and it does not matter how many coaches have cheated or lied in the past.

"it has certainly marred the image of Tennessee men’s basketball."

And here I was thinking all his successors until Pearl did a pretty good job of marring the image of UT men's basketball. Apparently ol Don forgets Wade, Kevin, Jerry, and Buzz tanked the program.

exactly,

what pearl did was wrong and he's paid for it, in fact he'll pay for more it. but we need to back him.

if he's family, we need to support him. give him one more chance.
