Y'all are right the Vol that was standing right next to where the ball landed isn't relevant.
Any overthrown pass that doesn't make the line of scrimmage is now grounding.
All of these are relevant. It was a BS grounding call. There were 2 receivers in the area, he was outside the tackles, and conceivably trying to make a play out of nothing. No, it did not cross the line of scrimmage, but; IIRC, the one receiver was behind the line of scrimmage. Intentional grounding is trying to avoid a sack by throwing away the ball with the 3 items above (inside the tackles, ball doesn't cross the LOS, and no receiver in the area)as criteria. JMOBetter not throw that screen pass at the RB's feet anymore. Make sure you be careful on those bubble screens too. Got to catch them.
