Don't make this loss something it's not

Well, I am ready to let the rest of the season play out, but this would be a good time to move on if things don't work out. It is OK to lose to Florida and Ky, but we need to pretty much win the rest of them.

I am afraid if this season does not have a big turn around, recruiting is going to suffer. Why not just cut and run now (if there is not a big turn around)?

What bothered me the most was that TN players were getting fouled a lot, and it was not being called - and it did not appear to me that Cuonzo was doing anything about it. Unfortunately, it is the head coach's job to get in the ref's faces. I don't think he does that very well at all. (I know a lot of fouls were called, but at times they were just killing us - in full-court press and against Stokes).

The last paragraph is what I have been screaming all year. CCM would go along way with me and I would say his player even more so, if he would get a T every once in a while for them. I wouldn't even cared if he had gotten tossed in the second half today. He has to show his players he cares or they will start wondering why they have to.

As bad as UT basketball has been historically, just making the tournament is something. Pearl made it his first 6 seasons at UT. Martin is 0 for 2 and about to make it 0 for 3.

I was referring to the ones saying if we make it we will lose the first game and it will still be a bad season. The same posters bring up Pearl's 6 trips. I think you can't brag on half of them if you think a trip and an early loss is a bad year. That is what Pearl did half his years.

Also about this 0 for two and Pearl every year stuff. People don't realize or want to acknowledge the factors in that. Martin was left less talent than Pearl and a team picked to finish at the bottom of the SEC. Cam Tatum was the best returning player. Pearl got a team projected mid pack SEC. Also he got one of the most clutch players ever at any level, C Lo. He was already an established scorer after an all freshman year averaging 13.5 points and leading the SEC in threes. With a C Lo we make it both years. We were close with less than Pearl had to work with.

I totally agree with the haters. CCM made two absolutely inexplicable coaching decisions that sunk this game;
1. Coaching his team to make 1/19 from 3-land.
2. Coaching his best player to go 1/15 from the field.
I mean, anyone knows he should have instructed them to score more. What a loser.

You run an offense that will put them in a position to score and have good looks.

you can't explain it to some people enough. UF gets easy layup after layup while McRae is pulling up with the shot clock down and a hand on his face or driving into a crowd and don't correlate those parts of the game with coaching.

I can't believe you would post something like this! Martin is the HEAD COACH! Who evaluated the high school talent and recruited the players on the court? Who taught these kids how to play offense and defense? Who is responsible for the way they play? Wait. I guess it is the players fault after all ... !!!

Sports talk yesterday was talking about how UT could only afford two more losses this season, one to FL and one to Mizzu. I don't know what's going to happen after this season, but it's really hard to sit here and think this team can finish the season with only one more loss at the most. You can take what ya want from the talk show comments, some here hate the show, some like it, personally I'm indifferent, but at the end of the day we have a pattern of bubble teaming it to the tournament under Zo. After this year, especially if Stokes leaves which he will, this team's most proven scorer is Josh Richardson. If we can't make the tournament now, there's no hope for next year under the current conditions in terms of coaching.

Chris, what happens if UT losses at home to Ole Miss on Wednesday? I would say it's very possible.

Yeah Pearl was left with great talent. So much so that UT was predicted to finish 5th in the east. Not 5th out of the 12 that were in the SEC then, but 5th in the east. Not that much talent apparently. Pearl also did more in his first year than Martin has done in his 3 years here.

Good lord. 7 posts in, and someone says "excuses." Where did I excuse anything? I said this game is not a season killer. I DID NOT say it's ok to lose it, I said it was objectively expected. No one can excuse a blowout, but you can acknowledge that they we played a superior team.

Is it not objectively obvious this staff is clueless? We start 3 seniors and 2 juniors and this is our season

My question would be what has this staff shown you to make you think we can get back to the point of playing for seeding most years and making runs in the tournament? This staff's obvious issues have been stated ad nauseum, so I'm not going to rehash it all.

At this point I just don't understand what people think is magically going to change to get our teams to not underachieve and actually have a schematic offensive and defensive advantage against above average coaches.

:lolabove: I agree he should have blitzed more. He don't know how to coach his players to get better shot or his so called best player how to score. :salute: plain and simple.

The way things are looking it's he either gets this team into the dance or the rumor mill will run rampant of his firing being needed. That's a helluva pinch to be in.

Was todays effort pathetic? Yes. Do I want a better coach? Yes. Is that going to change before April? No. And no amount of *****ing will change it either.

So in the meantime I don't know why it bothers people that some want to hope for the best and try to be positive. Misery loves company I guess.

Excuse may not be the correct term but you certainly did your best to minimize what could best be described as a shellacking. If you go in to any game expecting to get blown out you either have the wrong coach or the wrong mentality. And if you see making the tourney this year as the ultimate triumph then you and I have very different expectations for this program.

Chris, I get what you're doing, and had we lost respectably, I would applaud it. But the way we lost is just inexcusable and honestly it's really hard to have any kind of excitement about the rest of this season.

I really don't think this team has what it takes to go on a hot streak like the previous 2 seasons.

So are you trying to say Pearl didn't inherit way more talent that was way more experienced?

Pearl. CJ Watson a long term NBA pg 12pts 5ast the year before. An All American, all time great clutch shooter and scorer in CLo 13.5 pts. Two shot blockers in Patterson 7.5pts 6reb and Wingate 5.0 Pts, 3.0 Reb and a wing defender in Asumnu 2.4 Pts, 1.0 Reb . Jujuan hadn't done anything yet 1.9 Pts. Plus everyones favorite Dane Bradshaw 3.0 Pts, 2.3 Reb, 1.9 Ast.

Martin. The top scorer he inherited was Tatum at 8.8, he averaged the same with Martin. Woolridge , not a shot blocker who avg 1.6 with Pearl. Maymon who avg 2.6. McRae 1.8. Golden 3.0 Pts, 1.1 Reb, 2.2 Ast. Kenny Hall 2.0 Pts, 1.8 Reb. Plus McBee with his whopping 3.0 Pts, 1.0 Reb, 0.6 Ast.

Pearl inherited so much more talent and production its not funny. I don't see why people don't acknowledge this. It was a reason we weren't picked to be good preseason the last few years. Martin did good for what Pearl left him. I'm sure we would have got an extra game or two and got in with Lofton.

Pearl got a freshman all american who put up 13.5 another 12 points and 5 ast guy and two big guys who both avg 5pts or better. Martin got a Sr who avg 8.8 and no one else over 3 pts.

In middle school I was taught that you pass to get out of full court presses. That you should never dribble in a double team. And that you have to move the ball and move in a zone to create opportunities.

Do you think Cuonzo forgot to teach our team that?

Tennessee looked lost and made no attempt to adjust to the same mistakes we kept making.

You are speaking realistically. Chris's argument is hypothetical.
Most realists can see that with this coach they don't have the IT factor needed .
I'm seeing a team that looks like it could cave in at any time.
