Dooley could have coached Louisiana Tech 16 years and I don't think he would have ever sniffed a 12-win season.
It is amusing to watch you struggle with this. When Dooley was hired all you could talk about was a losing record in 3 seasons. Hoke has a losing record in 8 seasons and you think he's the next Bo at Michigan.
michigans football tradition is built of from what?
If your answer is anything but Bo Schembechler, then you dont know anything about michigan football.
I am assuming that you do know something, so Im assuming that we agree here.
Bo WAS michigan football in the 70s and 80s. When Bo left for the Tigers, the program stayed top 10, most of the time, but they were not the program that Bo left behind.
I think the michigan academics are superior to most schools, in a lot of ways. But there is proof out there, and I dont have to time to track it down, that they treat their football players different than the rest of their student body. Does that make them different than most schools? NO. So my suggestion is that they need to quit pretending that it does.
my sources, and yes I have them, say that Hoke was somewhere around choice #4. There were a lot of things happening during that time, and um AD has already been caught in lies about it (Claiming Hoke was his first choice, but then Harbaugh came out and admitted to turning down a contract)
Anyways, the season will be interesting. I dont think michigan will ever drop off the national radar completely. But I honestly do not think it will be the same as it was in the Bo days, or even Lloyd Carr days.
Lloyd Carr himself said that michigan football was not the same after bo died. Bo did A LOT for that team after he retired. He still had an office in the football complex. he met with every important recruit as they came on campus. He was a HUGE figure in that program for years after he retired.
Lloyd had said that recruiting was never the same after. There was so much that Bo did that was then turned over to him. Made it a different job.
Then with Lloyd gone (and trust me, as a MSU fan, Im glad Lloyd stepped down. He is a good coach, and a better man.) It was much easier to recruit against and play against RichRod
Will have to see what Hoke can put up as a coach there. All coaches at michigan will be measured by the standards bo set, not by moeller, or lloyd, and especially not by richrod.
still not sure how he did that. Smoke and mirrors?
Hoke has a pretty good resume'. He turned some crap programs into winners. But he didnt spend a whole lot of time at either program.
Just his resume' as an assistant is pretty impressive. I just dont think it turns around real fast.
(im sure if he pulls out a win in E Lansing this year, yall will bump this thread and rip me a new one)
