That's what was just said on CFB Daily as they said UT was #1 program that could get a new coach and have the quickest/best turnaround (surprise). He kept saying Dooley came in and 'done the heavy lifting and stabalized the program'. Your thoughts and does that make anyone thank Dooley for anything as he's ran outta town providing he is?

Theres never been a doubt in my mind that he has done an outstanding job of bringing stability to UT. I believe with a new DC he will turn this program back to prominance. my fear for DD is he doesn't get rid of Sal and we look the same next year. Then and only then will I turn to the Dark Side. Sal leaving = winning!!!

I agree to all of this. If we would have had a good DC we would have been good but for some dumb*@# reason he decided to hire a terrible dc.

I don't think Sal is going to leave. However, I would certainly EXPECT a "realignment of duties" that puts him in a different role (LB coach? "sideline" coordinator? or something that is a lower role without a demeaning firing). If he goes, it will be as part of a total house cleaning.

Has Conklin not been a Defensive Coordinator somewhere. I was thinking maybe fire Sal and just hire Conklin and hire a new safties coach. Maybe with the fact that Conklin has actually called plays before we may see a significant imporvement in our scheme with an actually defensive coordinator calling the plays and not a line backers coach.

Someone on VN said he was a dc for Div 2 school but I don't know who. I don't know if its true either.

It would be hard to argue that Dooley hasn't done a pretty decent job in stability. Even with all of the coaching changes last year the Vols are still in better position than when he arrived. My greatest fault with Ole Dooley is that he came in as a no nonsense, no excuses type of guy, but that seems to be all we are getting out of him. IE. The first two years we were too young, this year we are transitioning to a complicated defensive scheme. Now thatis true but you think maybe just maybe he could have beaten a team just once that he wasn't supposed to win or at least a ranked opponent(Florida, South Carolina, LSU, GA, Miss St.,) I see irrelevant teams win against ranked opponents and it makes me sick. If we give Dooley another year I'll be there supporting the team. I just think it's time we shine the light a new direction.

When you've had these kinds of struggles, it is almost always necessary to replace the leadership. The trust and confidence on all sides is just too far gone.

I believe Dooley did a very good job of everything except coaching on game day... but you have to have that too. Maybe he learns and becomes successful but UT cannot afford OJT for its HC.

He has done a good job stabilizing the program. Can't coach a lick though.

Thanks CDD no move over for a coach that can win.

Lots of people could stabilize a program. We could have hired any sort of administrator to do that. Dooley is a poor recruiter and a lousy coach. The sooner he's gone, the better.

Yeah, we were winning so much before he got here.

Someone tell me how losing stabilizes a program.

Rebuilt the roster from next to nothing.

Was part of the fix for UT's NCAA problems.

Restored discipline within the program... remember Fulmer's last few years when players were being arrested or booted?

Created mgt systems within the program.

Restored integrity and respect within the program.

Problem is... he couldn't follow all of those program building things up with wins on the field once he had a roster good enough to get them. I understood the first two years of struggling and not beating anyone significant. But this year he had a good enough team to be no worse than a 3 loss team at this point. It is tough that he made a bad call hiring Sal... but it is what it is. The program needs to move on.

I personally think UT is a 1 or 2 loss team with Wilcox instead of Sunseri. I don't think Wilcox would have folded vs MSU, UGA, UF, or USCe like Sal's D. The O might have been even better if they believed in the D.

You can say that all you want, but it doesn't make it true. Just like how everyone said we would have won a bunch of games last year if Justin Hunter didn't get injured. There is always an excuse. We were a 5-7 team last year with Wilcox. We are a 4-5 team currently with Sunseri.

If Dooley had done some heavy lifting the program wouldn't still need to be rebuilt. He at best cleared the site of the rubble and stacked the staged the building materials. but actually putting together? Not so much.

Rebuilt the roster from next to nothing. Because alot of guys left when they found out Derek Dooley was going to be their new coach. He replaced them with classes ranked 8th in the conference.

Was part of the fix for UT's NCAA problems. What NCAA problems? A few minor violations committed by Kiffin? No "fix" was needed. Just don't commit more violations. Not too hard.

Restored discipline within the program... remember Fulmer's last few years when players were being arrested or booted? Like Tyler Bray? Da'Rick Rogers? Cam Clear?

Created mgt systems within the program. Pretty vague...Don't all coaches do this?

Restored integrity and respect within the program. By losing to Kentucky? By becoming the first SEC team other than Vanderbilt to start 0-5 in the SEC 3 years straight? By getting out-recruited by Vanderbilt?

fixed

Recruiting is in the crapper

Vandy is winning more than UT

The team is absolutely leaderless on the field

We can't pull more than 80K for a non-conference game

Assistants leave on a yearly basis

Our coach is on the proverbial hot seat with every loss

We're setting records of futility every week

So no, we're not very stable right now.
