Dooley has done the heavy lifting

That's what was just said on CFB Daily as they said UT was #1 program that could get a new coach and have the quickest/best turnaround (surprise). He kept saying Dooley came in and 'done the heavy lifting and stabalized the program'. Your thoughts and does that make anyone thank Dooley for anything as he's ran outta town providing he is?

If we had any kind of defense we would be a good team this year. We should win when we score 44 and even 35. We made a bad hire for DC and we may have to go out and make a change next season. Dooley seems to be doing well in managing the team no off field incidents and a great offense. I think he made a huge mistake hiring a DC and if that gets him fired that was his own doing.

Dooley came up with the Vols For Life program. For that, I thank him. For 13 men on the field, Sal Suckseri, game mismanagement, and for entertaining the sportscasters with World War II stories, I will be glad we have seen the end of that nonsense. How did I get on such an old post?

Objects are usually quite stable when settled on the bottom.

Haha that actually made me laugh. The fans that "loved" him reminded me of passengers on the titanic telling the other not to panic that everything was going to be fine.

Amazing to read some of the support Doofus still had as late as November.

This thread is really amazing when you consider it came on the heels of going 0 for October and letting Troy score 48 points. The last post before the bump would have been the morning of the Missouri game. Wonder why the OP didn't come back to comment further?

The defense of Doofus was amazing. Some fans (a helluva lot more than I'd have ever thought) defended him like he was some kind of cult leader. It was amazing how they assigned zero fault on him on a regular basis no matter what he did/didn't do.

I think a lot of it was that whether they thought he was the guy or not, they just didn't want to go through another coaching change unless it was a last resort. I think the Missouri game last year pretty much clinched it for all but a few holdouts.

There are many here who choose to think Dooley was evil incarnate. They can't be satisfied just saying that he could not coach on gameday/gameweek well enough to win games.

I don't know if their memories are just that short or if they simple choose not to remember how bad things were in every respect at the end of Fulmer's tenure.

Got to love all the folks that keep harping on the guy and act as if he ran the a top program into the ground. Not like the program was on the downturn for many yrs prior to him coming along or anything. Just baffles me all the people that act as if there s*it don't stink.

Yall act like he was taking over Florida like muschamp did, and ran it into the ground.

Some of yall really do need to understand that the situation he walked into isn't cured with only X's and Os, but with actual business fundamentals. Many issues needed to be fixed first before the W/L column could be in the positive.

I said from the beginning of the season that he needed to beat someone that mattered. After USCe, I said he should be fired so the coaching search could begin. But according to some here, that meant I was a Dooley lover.

I want to see the right steps taken to get the program to championships. Nothing more and nothing less. I do not care if they bring Dooley back and he does it, if Jones does it, or someone who comes in after Jones.

But you will never get to that point unless you give HC's the time to prove themselves.

Nah, she wasn't logical about this thing.

But to your point, how dare Oskie introduce logic and reasoning! He should be ashamed of himself for not agreeing with everyone else that Dooley was the "debil".

i will be the first to admit, i was one of the biggest Dooley supporters.. I do believe he makes one hell of an Assistant Coach, but not a great head coach (especially when an idiot like mike hamilton is his boss).. i believe that Dooley did alot to stabilize our program, but behind the scenes he did alot to tear it down as well... Dooley had the enthusiasm to point us in the right direction, but the ego to keep us lost just to be the savior if and when we found where we were going.. i respect Dooley for the attempt, but am glad that he is now gone (its so scary to think that if we had of beat LSU and UNC in year ZERO that he might still be our coach, or if we had of beat Vandy last year and Kentucky the year before we wouldnt be having this convo)

since Butch has taken over, it is amazing to see how many people, players, and former players REALLY had a problem with Dooley.. it is so surreal to think that right now there are probly people who liked Kiffen as coach more than Dooley... but thats neither hear nor there.. i do think that Butch has the stuff to completely get us back to competeing, and sooner than later.. i LOVE my Tennessee Vols, and cant wait to see them relivent again!!

so to summarize, i think Dooley deserves some of the credit for the heavy lifting, but he also deserves MOST of the credit for why Butch is still doing alot of heavy lifting, and why it may even be heavier for him...

I agree, but you also never get to that point by ignoring obvious failure - like winning 5 games and losing to Vandy in year 3. It's a fine line that I hope we never cross again.
