Simply put, if UT retains Dooley, it shows they have zero commitment to winning. That will be a deathblow to the rich history of UT. Accepted mediocrity is sabotage of the highest order.

IF Hart were to announce Dooley is returning, I would look for the rock to be painted with "Vandy East" within 45 minutes.

Gruden announced as next head coach;

Recruiting will take the fork off, there'll be a new spring game record for attendance, We'll be on CFL every show& probably "Inside the Program", Tyler will LEARN how to be a LEADER, and my azz will be in Knoxville screaming and having a good time with you's guys!

Dooley is retained;

Erase all the above.

Dooley is gone, cheer for the players to make it to a bowl game, they deserve it. For those still supporting Dooley, Name another SEC school that would hire Dooley?

The answer in no other SEC school would hire him but yet there are some on here who think he has what it takes.

It's truly astonishing that there are people ignorant enough to think Derek Dooley should continue to coach here. I wouldn't trust him to scan tickets at the gate.

Recruiting and stability? Have you looked at our current recruiting class? It is awful (by SEC standards). If Dooley stays another year, with the schedule TN has next year, we will be 6-6, 5-7 once again. At that point, after year 4, will he still need more time? Honest question, because that is the reality of the situation.

I was buying the stability angle until about 40 seconds left in yesterday's game. How will Dooley be able to recruit when the Vols can't even win a conference game?

JimVol: stick to men's gymnastics or synchronized swimming. Leave football talk to those who actually watch football.

We're in this position now because people like you fell for smooth presentation over actual football-based evaluation. That goes double for the so-called recruiting gurus over on the other forum who routinely kissed Dooley's arse with bullshiz about the recruiting ability of the head coach.

Look at us now: we're closer to Troy than we are to Alabama in terms of talent and ability.

He's not just going, OP: he's gone. As far as I'm concerned, you and the other DFL folks can go to Bammer with him.

He was recruiting 6th to 8th place talent anyway. Thats not gonna get better.

What exactly is your obsession with keeping Dooley? The conditions for keeping him keep changing.

My goodness this year has gone from "We're going to get 9 wins/be a darkhorse for the SEC East/this is the year we prove we're back/you'll not have UT to kick around anymore" to "6-6 and Dooley is back".

At BEST this guy can finish 6-6 regular season...6 AND FREAKIN' 6, for a year we were supposed to show major improvement.
