Dooley to SMU?

I think the buyout is going to be paid whether he is hired or not.

I wonder if DD will play the comedian in his press conferences at SMU? It should be interesting hearing him blame the team and throw them under the bus when they lose to UCF or Cincinnati 56-0.

But posters implying above he would lead SMU to another death penalty. I don't think APR would do that.

Pretty sure people mean that hiring Dooley is just as bad for your program as getting hit with another death penalty.

All you need to know about Dooley's coaching ability was the Kentucky game we lost to end the season and not make a bowl in 2011. End of story.

Tennessee should have fired Derek Dumbass at the end of 2011 no question. A WR playing quarterback for Kentucky beat UT. That brought suckitude to untold levels

The most pathetic display I've ever seen from a UT team in all my life watching them. Even counting the blowouts. Just no effort whatsoever, no gameplan, no adjustments, no nothing. So pathetic.

I really get irritated how often our own fans talk about this game like this. WE OUTPLAYED SOUTH CAROLINA. That was not a game we just happened to win because "a bunch of breaks went our way". At one point in that game my wife turned to me and said "I know I don't know a lot about football, but we just look like a very good team right now." My wife could see it and some Vol fans can't. That's sad.

North's catch wasn't luck, he makes crazy catches all the time. The only "break" we got was Shaw going out, and that wasn't until the very end of the ball game.

We outcoached, outmanned, and outplayed them. I don't know why so many Tennessee fans struggle with this. The Dooley Era is over, this team is capable of competing whether you want to believe it or not. Sorry, end rant, carry on.

Yes and no on this. Without a doubt, UT played their best game of the year that afternoon. However, Carolina also probably played their worst. If Carolina has even an average showing, UT doesn't beat them, regardless of how well they play.

SMU will likely go with an aging experienced coach that has 4-5 years left. If it were me making the decision, I'd elect to find a younger guy that needs to get his feet wet in the college game. Re-treading coordinators or cherry picking coaches from the smaller conferences is never going to get them anywhere. My honest opinion is that they should call someone like Lee Fedora. He's Larry's brother and he's a winner. Just my 2 cents.

Never have I seen such incredible incompetence (winning record anywhere?) and arrogance ("...we're just not a very good football team...") gone rewarded as is the case with Dools. $12M buyout from UT (after making $2M+ a year)...only to start working with the Cowboys at approximately $250,000 a year (+bonus) and now a probable head-coaching position at a salary probably north of $1M. Never have I seen such incompetence rewarded....never.

I doubt SMU offers anyone a $1mil+ contract for any good length of time. They were barely able to pay June. That job should be something like $750,000 plus incentives based on performance. Bowl game appearance +$100,000, 9-10 win season +$100,000 ect...

If he did coach at SMU, I would hope we schedule them immediately.

If we played them he would some how keep it close until the forth and then put us in field goal range to win because of too many men on the field penalty, a sideline infraction penalty, and personal foul for having his stool too close to the side line.

Hopefully Tennessee schedules SMU in the future. I'd like to see how Derek Dumbass would be received in his return to Neyland Stadium!:eek:lol:

They also need to draw a circle around the metro-plex and say that after all the big boys get done taking the 4-5*'s the rest of these kids need to come here. Easier said than done, but they don't have any other choice but to start local.

Or they start buying players like in 1979-1985.

Ahhhhh the good old days when a gold trans am actually meant something to a man.

Barry Switzer in his book said he knew SMU was buying when Eric Dickerson turned OU down for SMU. It's been said that SMU paid Dickerson's grandma(ED's legal guardian in 1978) over 20,000 dollars to get her permission for him to go to SMU.

You wouldn't believe the amount of $ that was spread around throughout the old SWC back then. Pony Excess was a great show, but they didn't go in to nearly half the details that I've heard from first hand accounts.

I'm going on the SMU message board(Ponyfans.com) and warn them not to hire Derek Dumbass!:eek:lol::crazy:

Dooley is a clown and has no business being on a sideline, in any capacity.

That being said, Chad Morris would be a great fit there and I think he'd take the job in a second.

A couple of SMU fans said that he was being considered as a head coaching candidate at SMU. DD went to an SMU basketball game last December and one SMU thinks he may become SMU head coach. Tennessee AD Hart's son is SMU athletic director
