Dooley to SMU?

Their lack of commitment is their only restriction. I should have clarified that. They were "barely" able to justify paying June and therefore I doubt they spend equal to or greater than he was getting.

Wasn't he making roughly $2mil/year?

Offer Morris $1.5m or so to come home.

I like to play devil's advocate on this because people forget Bill Belicheck was 36-44 as head coach of the Cleveland Browns... I'm not saying Dooley is Belicheck, but sometimes a person just isn't a fit in a location for a lot of reasons...

Dooley did not have one single break go his way at all in his time at Tennessee... In fact, if Dooley had gotten the same amount of breaks in his entire tenure as Tennessee got last year against South Carolina, he would have won about 5 more games...

All that being said, we're very lucky to have gone through Kiffin and Dooley and ended up with a coach that has as much passion for Tennessee football as we have now... I know it's easy for people to bash Dooley because he disappointed them, but I feel like he honestly tried as much as he was personally able to and I also don't blame anyone for taking a job that he or she might now be ready for... If you want to vilify someone over the Dooley era, his name is Mike Hamilton...

Dooley got a break in the LSU game, but somehow took a crap all over it by allowing half the team on the field. He never figured out the substitution process in his 3 year tenure and as another endearing quality, he blamed everybody else for it except himself. Dooley's record at TN is a direct reflection of his coaching ability at the time. If he gets the job at SMU, I wish him well with the hope he learned from his past mistakes and if not, that we schedule them sometime in the foreseeable future.

Gotta be a tough time to be an SMU fan with the success at Baylor and TCU as constant reminders of where your program could be if the cards would just turn up right.

They've mentioned wanting Jake Spavital from us too. With success comes turn over in regards to coordinators.

They should hire Dino Babers from Bowling Green. He already has Texas recruiting ties and he can bring 5* WR Robbie Rhoads with him and install Briles' offense.

Around the Horn just said Eric Dickerson said to shut the football program down because it's so bad. Funny, coming from one that was part of the investigation that did.

Dooley would be a great hire at SMU IMO. He started his coaching career there and knows the recruiting ground well.

Folks forget that he was forced to take on Jim Chaney as the OC, and that combo clearly didn't work.

The Dooltabby would fit SMU's culture to a T.

I could see him being coach there for 20 years and having a lot of success.

Hiring Derek Dumbass would start an SMU fan revolt. Nobody on the SMU message board wanted him as head coach.

I don't understand all this hate for a guy who just wasn't a good coach, people act like he beat their kids with a baseball bat or something. When he just wasnt ready to coach a big time program but that doesn't mean he cant learn and improve.

Mike H., is that you?

You can't be serious. Chaney was responsible for literally the only successful part of Dooley's tenure here

Get outta here...That moron would screw up a high school head coaching job...Chaney was the only reason he had what little success he had at UT....Remember, Chaney is 1-0 at UT as HC
