Dooley Wants Safeties at 215#+

How about have those big guys up front and 225-245 guys at LB to clean up any mess. Bigger is better up in the front 7 more times than not.

As long as you aren't giving up speed I am okay with that. The way college football is moving right now, you have to be able to go sideline to sideline.

If we're sticking with a 4-3, we don't need huge LBs. I'll take old school Tennessee LBs over a Big Tenesque group.

My understanding is that Justin Wilcox's defensive schemes require a few LB/DE hybrids and LB/S hybrids (which would require larger safeties) for formations that look like a 3-4 base defense. However, in certain formations that look like a 4-3 base defense, we would have smaller LBs and safeties. Is this true, or am I looking at this the wrong way? If so, how will the personnel be utilized in his schemes?

OK. :hi:

So we have 3 safety commits, right? Loften, Randolph, & Martin.

We have 2 CB commits: Thomas & Coleman.

And yet our top 2 DB targets are safeties: Orta & Marcus.

Looks like the coaches want to recruit 4 safeties & 2 CBs. It would give them the flexibility to move Waggner & maybe Janzen Jackson to CB next year.

Or am I reading too much into this?
It seems I remember Randolph saying they might give him some time at CB in an interview.

Kiffin and Dooley have both said that Jackson would be a great CB and that it was probably his natural position. We could have a very physical secondary in a few years that can support the run well the way we are going right now.
