I don't just disagree, I think it is absolutely retarded. Just about every good safety in the NFL right now is under 215.
How many Polamalu's are there in the world or Ed Reed's or Eric Berrys? You don't sound smarter than our coaches or other posters by making fun of Coach Dooley. This isn't high school, and that doesnt make ppl like you.
Dooley is saying this but he's not a bigtime defensive guy. He might be wrong, doesnt mean he's retarded. 205-215 is not a bad weight for a safety. Sorry you disagree, but Eric Berry is 211 right now. That's where Dooley wants his players from what I gather.
I agree with him that our safties are a little small, about like CBs right now, there's a big difference in 180 and 210. That's what Dooley is saying. IMO

I have the rankings of the 2010 class of Safeties, I am going to list name and weight, here is the link.
WalterFootball.com: 2010 NFL Draft: Safety Rankings
This weight is the listed weight before the NFL Draft, so college weight in my opinion.
I also am going to list their NFL combine 40 time.
Eric Berry: 211 lbs / 4.40
Earl Thomas, Texas Longhorns: 208 / 4.44
Taylor Mays, USC: 230 / 4.30
Nate Allen, South Florida: 207 / 4.47 (EST)
Rashad Jones, Georgia: 214/ 4.54
Chad Jones, LSU: 225 / 4.57
Major Wright, Fla: 204 / 4.49
Larry Asante, Nebraska: 212 / 4.63
Average Weight: 213.875
Average 40 time: 4.48
So, it sounds like to me, Coach Dooley wants a top 8 safety in the NCAA. I don't know about you guys but I would love to have a Taylor Mays or Earl Thomas on our team.
Seems like 214lbs doesn't affect speed too much...
Dooley clearly said 215 lbs., however.
Enough to know that some people are stripping the comment from its context, parsing it down to a ridiculous level, and then proceeding to tilt with the windmills they've so carefully constructed.
This had better be a joke as well...
M. Hughes: 305
G. Clark: 300
A. Jeffrey: 294
I can keep going, but I really don't think you are serious.
It's kind of hard to tell without any smileys or lols though...
Wanting bigger safeties to fit a defensive scheme is one thing, but saying you want bigger safeties to help tackle is another. There are plenty of safeties out there who are less than 215 who don't have a tackling problem.
Obvious joke, but it does highlight one of the real problems on defense. Interior linemen and LBs should be much higher on the priority list than finding bigger safeties.
He's listed at running a 4.40 40 time on rivals.com... That's slightly faster than EB ran it at the combines (4.44).
how do you know they aren't?
Do you have a copy of Dooley's priority list at home? It's one comment on a radio show or at a press conference. Now you are saying it's one of his top priorities? Come one man!
You cant be taking yourself serious, I know I can't.
Well, there is a huge difference between a time run at a camp/high school and the time you run at the NFL combine.
Regardless, Brewer has speed. There is a difference in that between track speed and field/playing speed. One is your natural physical capabilities the other depends on coaching. Being in the right place and in a foul mood.
It'll come for Brewer.

Bingo. How fast can he run shouldn't be the question. How fast can he play is what needs to be asked.
