Dorial Green Beckham to Oklahoma

We always have room to throw stones when it comes to guys that beat women. I don't care how talanted someone is, if they pull that crap then I don't want them anywhere near our university. If Butch Jones had pulled this stunt then I would be pretty pissed and would call for his firing.
I don't disagree with this at all, but I'm also not going to act like the team I root for has a strong history of running a program full of high character kids. We are very fortunate that Butch Jones is turning that around.

Stoops has some splainin' to do.

Which will not change my opinion of the situation one iota.

It is possible he gets to play. There is previous precedent in college basketball with these type of rulings. Recent rulings in fact. Who knows what the NCAA will decide though. They just make it up as they go.

You don't even understand my point, so to say it is moot is moronic. My point is that UT had a lengthy and notorious history of taking problem players and we shouldn't condemn a coach for doing so. We have no room to throw stones.

You brought up the Fulmer cup. Please tell us how many times UT has won the cup?

@OU_Football: @OU_CoachStoops announces addition of Dorial Green-Beckham: bit.ly/1j0S26d

Might have just gotten harder for us to pull an upset. Oklahoma is pursuing a waiver for immediate eligibility so not guaranteed that he'll play.

Good grief. Seems like a desperate move from Stoops.

I understand your point, it's not a difficult concept. But your living in the past what happened under Fulmer and Kiffin is not relevant to UT's program today. We have a coach now that actually tries to keep the program under control, that's what is relevant. Please move forward instead of looking back.

OU and Stoops should ashamed of themselves. Not for taking the kid in, but for trying to push the NCAA to let him play this year. If he was a hardship case or left Mizzou for a unique reason, I could see him playing this year. He was kicked out for criminal stuff though. No way in hell he should on the field this year. Imagine the precedent this would set. Get caught smoking weed, twice, assault a female, get kicked out of school, go somewhere else and play without skipping a beat. Its laughable that they even have the stones to try to pull this crap. I guess that's the arrogance of big money.

Let's try and add some clarity to the situation; first, when he was seen on campus in Norman with some of our assistant coaches, he had already signed his scholarship paperwork so there is no NCAA violation here.

The situation involving the female who was allegedly pushed down a few stairs was never adjudicated because charges were never filed. The two pot incidents were certainly cause for concern but what program doesn't have issues with players using or being around pot?

Our staff has had a long close relationship with DGB going back to his recruitment coming out of Springfield. We were considered the front runner for his services right up until his surprise signing with Mizzou.

Finally, Stoops has a history of giving players second chances that for the most part have worked out very well, for both the player and the program. There may be followers of the Sooner program who have their issues with Stoops but his integrity and the way he handles player discipline is considered beyond reproach. He kicked two starters off the team in 2005 right before the season started, including our starting QB. Last year, he kicked our #1 RB, Damian Williams, off the team right before our seasoning ending stretch run. Williams did not play against OSU or Alabama.

There is no way that this decision was made with out the utmost in due diligence and the sign-off by our AD & President Boren. Hell, I am more pissed off about our new non-traditional uniforms than I am about this. I think the odds are better than 50/50 that he plays in 2014 based on recent precedent with the LSU b'ball player who was allowed to transfer and play immediately @ LSU.

Spoken like a true OU homer. My issue, and I suspect most peoples issue, is not that he is being given a second chance. Its the issue of trying to make him eligible to play this year. He is not in a unique, or hardship situation. Those are reasons that a player would be granted immediate eligibility. This kid got kicked out of school for bad behaviors, period. If the NCAA lets him play this year, I will start yelling to anyone who will listen, that an investigation must happen. The only way it happens is if someone is paid off, and OU have the money to do that.

Just to clarify the reason assault charges were never filed. The victim decided not to press charges after Mizzou coaches expressed their concerns to her about how it could effect DGB's draft status and worries over a backlash from the community.
