Let's try and add some clarity to the situation; first, when he was seen on campus in Norman with some of our assistant coaches, he had already signed his scholarship paperwork so there is no NCAA violation here.
The situation involving the female who was allegedly pushed down a few stairs was never adjudicated because charges were never filed. The two pot incidents were certainly cause for concern but what program doesn't have issues with players using or being around pot?
Our staff has had a long close relationship with DGB going back to his recruitment coming out of Springfield. We were considered the front runner for his services right up until his surprise signing with Mizzou.
Finally, Stoops has a history of giving players second chances that for the most part have worked out very well, for both the player and the program. There may be followers of the Sooner program who have their issues with Stoops but his integrity and the way he handles player discipline is considered beyond reproach. He kicked two starters off the team in 2005 right before the season started, including our starting QB. Last year, he kicked our #1 RB, Damian Williams, off the team right before our seasoning ending stretch run. Williams did not play against OSU or Alabama.
There is no way that this decision was made with out the utmost in due diligence and the sign-off by our AD & President Boren. Hell, I am more pissed off about our new non-traditional uniforms than I am about this. I think the odds are better than 50/50 that he plays in 2014 based on recent precedent with the LSU b'ball player who was allowed to transfer and play immediately @ LSU.
Lol didn't Bonner rob Georgia's locker room on his recruiting visit? That was just two years ago. Butch has been signing good guys, but we definitely still have our share of goons.
......."character problems", and isn't such a human weakness what coaching is all about? I have a great-nephew on the current Sooner squad & one of the reasons he decided on OU was the way the staff coaches, trains, & mentors the players. Stoops is still a relatively young coach who remembers well what it was like to be a young, immature college athlete. He does a tremendous job bringing these kids along as they grow and mature, not only as athletes but as citizens.

As long as the kid sits out a year then I don't have any problem. Everyone deserves a second chance, but must also suffer the consequences of their actions.
I agree 100%. Getting kicked off the team for domestic violence is not a hardship. Surely the NCAA can't afford to lose any more credibility right now. Besides, if he doesn't play this year, I doubt he sees the field. At this point, I can't see him sitting out a year and staying out of trouble since he couldn't do it as an active player.
No, but the NCAA has ruled, very recently, that getting dismissed from a team for suspicion of an action, and then later finding no evidence of that action, IS essentially equivalent to a hardship. Combine that with Stoops literally squeaky clean image with the NCAA, and there's a better than average chance DGB plays this fall.

The NCAA might indeed be considered incompetent based on many observations over recent years. However, that fact has little bearing over this particular situation.
Hmm, seems he thinks he was wrongfully dismissed from Mizzou since assault charges were never filed by victims. Therefore, he thinks he is entitled to a waiver to play this year.

This is one of those key moments for the NCAA.. if they give this high profile player a waiver, that will end up being another black eye on their policy
