Doug Gottlieb

As a squad leader in the military, your always molding and shaping the young minds of these young kids coming off the street. You can beat the hell out of a person, but in the end it's up to the individual to do what's right.

Question: You have 2 squad leaders. One squad leader has a lot of his men getting into trouble. The other squad leader’s men rarely or never get into trouble. Does the military hold the 1st squad leader accountable or is it, “boys will be boys”’?

Or high school coaches.

Or AAU coaches.

Or anyone else inside the circle that is college bball recruiting.

You can find out how much or how little you want to know.

That can be true in some cases. Dig deep enough and you might find a reason not to bring a recruit to Knoxville. Young people make mistakes, and unless they murdered their family, they deserve a 2nd chance. Do you disagree with that.

Yea nothing says gangster or bloods like Tyler Smith.

Like it or not, this team would be better off on the court in the tourney with TS.

Actually bud, I kinda doubt that seeing as how he hasn't practiced with us in two months. European ball is a whole different game. I really don't think he would do so hot after being out of the loop so long ya know?

Second chances, yes.

However, when nearly half your roster turns over because of giving second chances and failing, odds are I'll bet they are on about their 9th and 10th chances and due diligence would have showed they were risky to begin with.

They usually look to the squad leader to remedy the problem. If the problem persists and can't be solved at the squad level, the problem becomes that of the platoon sgt, so on and so.

Unless the squad leader is directly responsible for the "problem" he is not held responsible for stupidiy. Of course there are many levels of "problems" and how they are handled.

Did I just make this up or do I remember correctly that the overall #1 seed(Kansas) is supposed to play the winner of the play-in game? Kansas got the shaft here and Duke is pretty scot-free

Not sure how you understood what I typed. Not even going to try and go there.

My point was giving some validity to Gottlieb's point that this team is not as good on the court without TS. We held serve with him gone, but people would be lying to themselves if they don't admit that Tyler made this team better.

There are 4 things in this world that I love:
1. My family
2. Working out
3. Shooting guns
4. And the Tennessee Volunteers

I'm sure we all can agree on 1 of those 4, unless your a troll, why else would you be here?

Not in that order BTW

I am not in agreement with that and I definitely make every effort not to lie to myself. UT has had essentially the same collection of players the last two seasons. Overall I preferred the without-Tyler games to the with-Tyler games.

Unrelated: Gottlieb has been propping up Temple all day and specifically said once they should have been a 2 or 3 seed. Interestingly they lost by 32 to Kansas at home.

yeah we sure did fall apart in that defeat of Kansas, huh Doug

just another espn punk dumping on the Vols...

Doug Gottlieb said earlier that if you throw out wins vs. Kansas and Kentucky... Tennessee's resume isn't that impressive.

Well he can't throw out the wins versus those two...but he is right. Those two wins kept us off the bubble, IMO
I would agree with that. Although I would then go and selectively pull two big wins from everyone in the field and then re-seed, re-analyze. Still might get us on the bubble.

He obviously hasn't watched any of our games then, outside of maybe the game on saturday. That's what pisses me off about the 24/7 365 sports media coverage we have now. You have all of these talk show hosts with strong opinions about subjects that they have done very little research on.

Great Points here. Do you like Pink Floyd sir?

I purposely took your statement as literally as I could. Even if Tyler Smith had spent the whole season as a Tennessee Volunteer, I doubt we would be where we are today. What if the next mistake he made would have involved Chism or Hopson. Then there really would be no team. His play was not incredibly impressive anyways. Yes he could score, but hell who couldn't throwing up so many shots.

Dang what did you get in trouble for? Pretty obv you stole credit cards too imo.

I have a spotless record.

I am just mature enough and am not ignorant to judge people and hold them down for mistakes they made when they were young.

If you don't think that Tyler Smith taking minutes away from Steven Pearl is a good thing, there is no point in continuing this conversation.
