Hubbs said every AD in the country wants White’s contract and he is genuinely appreciative. The only way he leaves is if Plowman leaves, and that’s not happening any time soon. White’s buyout decreases significantly (almost half) when Plowman is no longer Chancellor. It was either Hubbs or AP tgat was asked recently about Danny White being here. He isn’t going anywhere.
You bet it does! GBOHubbs said every AD in the country wants White’s contract and Danny knows it, meaning he is appreciative. The only way hr leaves is if Plowman leaves. The buyout decreases significantly as White and Plowman have an outstanding relationship, along with president Boyd. It’s been a minute since we’ve had all three positions aligned so perfectly. Makes a difference!
It is an irony that the forces that are transforming CFB are shifting new momentum toward SMU becoming a football contender.SMU one of the few universities that could pony up enough to make it a real conversation. They are investing serious money in the football program.
Vanderbilt already has a Vandy United campaign to improve their athletics budget. I'm not sure that peeling off parts of the department is wise -- 5% annually is a decent assumption of the amount of money you should expect from an endowment every year, adjusted for inflation, so a $1 billion endowment will get you $50 million a year. It's a good chunk but you're not getting into Tennessee or Alabama territory with that and you're taking away from other parts of the university when funding sources are precarious. It is an irony that the forces that are transforming CFB are shifting new momentum toward SMU becoming a football contender.
What are some other programs who can get a new lease on life in this environment?
Vanderbilt could be a sleeping giant if a small portion of their endowment shifted to football. A big if.
Exactly, i have been a Vol fan for 75 years and have never seen UT or any other school for that matter with 3 more talented people in these 3 positions. And not only talented but as you say more perfectly aligned. There seems to be no egos involved. HCOB should have a course on Executive Mgt with UT being a case study.Hubbs said every AD in the country wants White’s contract and he is genuinely appreciative.
