SMU one of the few universities that could pony up enough to make it a real conversation. They are investing serious money in the football program.

This is nothing more than a wish list to fill content. Haven't we been thru enough coaching searches to recognize it?
Exactly. Why do people continuously start threads with a link to an article that is nothing more than click bait? Everybody go back to sleep.

It was either Hubbs or AP tgat was asked recently about Danny White being here. He isn’t going anywhere.
Hubbs said every AD in the country wants White’s contract and he is genuinely appreciative. The only way he leaves is if Plowman leaves, and that’s not happening any time soon. White’s buyout decreases significantly (almost half) when Plowman is no longer Chancellor.

White and Plowman have an outstanding relationship, along with president Boyd. It’s been a minute since we’ve had all three positions aligned so perfectly. Makes a difference!

Saw where Danny White makes $2.75M at Tennessee, making him the highest paid AD in the SEC. SMU has a ton of money, but we're not Saudi Arabia. No way our new AD makes $3M+

TN is a much better job, with more high profile programs and the resources and donor base to improve even more. SMU has football and? They have money, but that’s about it. You’ll never be bigger than Texas University and A&M and you’re barely and debatably keeping up with TCU, Texas Tech, Houston and Baylor. Dallas is a pro sports town and will always be. It would be utterly shocking if he left UT.

It is an irony that the forces that are transforming CFB are shifting new momentum toward SMU becoming a football contender.

What are some other programs who can get a new lease on life in this environment?

Vanderbilt could be a sleeping giant if a small portion of their endowment shifted to football. A big if.

Vanderbilt already has a Vandy United campaign to improve their athletics budget. I'm not sure that peeling off parts of the department is wise -- 5% annually is a decent assumption of the amount of money you should expect from an endowment every year, adjusted for inflation, so a $1 billion endowment will get you $50 million a year. It's a good chunk but you're not getting into Tennessee or Alabama territory with that and you're taking away from other parts of the university when funding sources are precarious.

The only real reason for Danny White to take the SMU job, besides significant money, is to get his foot in the door and name eventually floated for the AD job at Texas.

Like it or not, the Texas AD is a better job. SMU isn't but Texas likes to hire ADs with experience and knowledge of the state and how things work in Texas.

Other than that, there's no reason to take SMU unless they actually double the $2.5M we pay.

Remember it's always about the money. TN better unload the Brinks truck if he flirts with the idea of any school luring him away.
If he’s smart…which he clearly is…he’ll let it “leak” that he’s “flirting” with the idea of leaving

Barring a complete catastrophe we are pretty secure with Dr Danny as long as Donde is chancellor. I believe his contract stipulates if she is not Chancellor his buyout is eliminated.

Exactly, i have been a Vol fan for 75 years and have never seen UT or any other school for that matter with 3 more talented people in these 3 positions. And not only talented but as you say more perfectly aligned. There seems to be no egos involved. HCOB should have a course on Executive Mgt with UT being a case study.

Don’t see him leaving for SMU. He will get much better offers if he is interested in going elsewhere.

This would be a step back to UCF level for White.

I can’t imagine White leaving without seeing the stadium and riverside projects completed first.
