On the flip side, alarmists can be wrong a thousand times in a row, then that 1,001st time they're right, and that's enough to carry forward the stupidity for another 1,000 times.

If you're almost always wrong, don't be so quick to celebrate the odd time when you're right.

Extreme "Negas" and "Pumpers" are two sides of the same coin, both lack basic reasoning skills and perceive any contrary view as an "attack", regardless of what was actually said or it's merit. After all these years they both make me yawn.

That's way too simple to be the truth.

In truth, there are very intelligent people among both extremes. Your emotional attachment to a team, or emotional damage causing negative feelings, doesn't correlate to intelligence. In other words, intellect and emotional drive are independent variables.

You also miss one HUGE difference between the two extremes: one side is in love with our team, while the other side often seems to despise it. That makes the sunshine pumpers infinitely more likeable.

I typically agree with most things you post, but I often find myself in conflict with extremes on both sides. I don't see love in the posts I am talking about more like simple ignorance.

That the Texas AD felt the need to address rumors that he might take the SMU job shows that SMU plays with big money.

The TX job is light years better than SMU and would be like Danny White having to deny he might take the AD job at GA Tech or Louisville. Ridiculous to think about, except SMU has big money donors who like to make a splash.

SMU is a sleeping giant IMO, especially in NIL era.

I would almost guarantee their Alumnus donor pool is AS HIGH AS most SEC schools.

It’s true…like it or not…if they offered him oil money and complete control of the department who’s to say he wouldn’t take it?

SMU was once a powerhouse up there with the best if the big 8…pair a boatload of money with full control and a chance to return yet another program to its former glory you’ve got the perfect recipe for something like this…

I don’t expect it to happen at all…it’s almost certainly click bait (which I have not indulged)…but to act like there’s no chance is a little shortsighted IMO
The biggest problem with SMU is that there is no such thing as complete control by anyone hired there. That is true for all places, but especially there; the Boosters RULE that place.

SMU's stadium seats 32,000 people - huge downgrade. There are wealthy alumni, but it's nothing like the O&G money behind the Ags. I don't see a chance of this being serious.

Dabo would’ve been canned long before he won a national title at Clemson if some fans were in charge. Tennessee was a dumpster fire when Heupel got here. He’s improved the team in that lockerroom and on the field every year he’s been here.

I don't see 2024 as an improvement over 2022. Don't get me wrong, I have no desire to see Heupel go anywhere at this point. But I also see a comfort level he has with being "very good" and not a drive to be the best, like with White.

Time will tell, and I thinkl he should stay in place for a few more seasons at least. But if he plateaus, then the decision will have to be made.

I agree. Negas always want the coach fired when anything negative happens, which is illogical, but Pumpers always revert to 'he is the one making $$$ to manage the team", or "have you ever coached Tennessee"? or "Let's rely on those who do this for a living" to justify any coaching decision even as the car goes off the cliff.

Neither extreme uses logic.

Roster is deeper and more talented. Program is in better overall condition.

The article doesn’t mention it, but his sister is an Assistant AD there. That’s the connection, and I’m not even sure how that would work. They do have money, but so do we, and I’m sure he likes having the better chance to win here. Much bigger brand and chance to win a bunch here.

Having a family member in your direct command line sounds like a conflict of interest.

That's just what I'd expect to hear from a Nega Pumper like you Hoss. There's no from in Fandom for emotion.

I had another analogy come to mind: this "I don't trust extremists at either end" perspective fails to distinguish between the natures of the two "extremes." It's ilke, you have axe murderers in one group, and goody-two-shoes in another group, and you claim not to trust either because they're at the extremes. Completely ignoring the fact that one of the groups is, you know, a bunch of axe murderers.

Lol. Nega Pumper, good one. :)
