I know we are in King's top five. I don't know if we get him, but we are a legit player.

if you had to make a realistic prediction for our 13' signing class what would you say? obviously a bit early and lots will definitely change, but just curious on your thoughts.

yea i really like our chances with nichols, the only way i really start to worry is if duke gets invoved, that will scare me a bit.

honest question because i dont keep up with the pulse of memphis: if memphis fails to make the tournament as it appears they might, and doesnt have a good showing in the NIT, whats the feeling around memphis? hot seat for pastner, or is he safe?

Duke will get in on Nichols, I'd bet my life on it. He's got Duke Player" written on his forehead (not just because he's white). They will end up a major player, as will Florida.

Right now, Memphis is projected a 9 seed, so I'm not worried about us not making the tournament. The improvement from last year to this year is undeniable. But if more losses were to pile up agaain and we missed the dance, the clock would start ticking on Pastner. He's got some homerun recruits lined up in the wings though, and his team is sterting to find an identity, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

It's very early. And so many things can change as MC pointed out. If Duke never offers, I'm very confident we get Nichols. Then my confidence drops 60% if they do.

My guess (right now and somewhat positive, because I have a lot of faith in CCM):

Landry
Bowles
King or Thornwell
Nichols
Kingsley

Would be a top 10, almost top five class.

1 5*
2 4*
2 2*( i fully expect landry and bowles to rise to 3* at least)

with landry and bowles staying 2* our class would be around 10, and with them being 3* we would be around 5. that is going by past classes and the rankings for them.

thats the exact 5 i had except i have us getting thornwell, but adding i wish it was king, haha. we are in on so many top talent guys that we can afford to miss a few like, jw3, taylor, king/thornwell or hubbs and still land a good class.

I think Kentucky will try to make a big push for JW3 and King though. It's going to be a battle.

JW3 I could see - but King I don't know. Cal already has offers out in that class to two small forwards (Jabari Parker and Troy Williams). I would think King would be quite cold toward UK at this point anyway. JMO

It's unlike Cal to go for the less athletic, worse-overall of two prospects that are in the same city. But I hope you're right.

No doubt King is the better prospect. I just figured he was offended by Cal's interest in Troy Williams primarily. Pure speculation on my part - no inside info here.

Question for you: Could King play the 4?

My 2 cents...

King COULD play the 4, but I'm gonna guess he'd rather go somewhere he can play the 3.

You think so? I've not seen him play in person, I'm sure he's capable. Does he prefer perimeter game or posting up more?

Cal's more prone to slide a tall SF down to the 4 than utilize two 4's or a 4 and a 5 in his rotation.

King prefers a perimeter game, but the kid is 6'8" or 6'9" now, 225. He can grab rebounds if need be. I'm not sure how well he'd defend a physical 4 on defense, but he's got the length to cause problems.

Thanks for the info. I agree 100% on Cal's system on the offensive end. I was more curious about the defensive end. Also had no idea he was that big (225). Only seen video - have never seen the kid play.

Reminds me a lot of Kidd-Gilcrist

It's not as big without Cuse or Pitt

cuse and pitt will be there next year unless the lawyers get it settled, big east has a 2 year wait to leave, unless they agree on a buyout which is still being debated.

even with cuse and pitt leaving youve still got atleast 10 teams in the big east thatd beat memphis this year IMO.
