Watched the Oregon-Kansas Sate game late last night. Went to sleep before it was over. But what I saw or think I saw is this:
Be aware of where DeAnthony is at all times. The guy is freaking bullet with guided missile properties.
The Duck QB must be knocked down. Even on passing plays if the slightest gap is open, he takes off gets a 1st down or better. The idea seems to be to not hesitate to go for a 1st down via QB run if opportunity presents itself, no matter what play is called. So if LBs rush in and dont get the QB and the secondary is 10-20 yards downfield, the chains are going to move. I believe hes coached to actually watch for such opportunities as opposed to being locked into the called play. So in essence, every Duck play is a potential QB draw.
The Duck defense is fast. Our vaunted OL cant afford to be stood up on rushing plays because if that happens the Duck corner rush will come in rocket fast. The OL has to knock people down so holes are made. I saw why our WRs coach insists on WRs who can block. With the Ducks you darn well better because they get by you, it will cost you big time.
I think it is important to put our big WRs on the field at the same time. I noticed that the Ducks often double teamed the big tall guys on KSU. If you have to contend with two such WRs, it means the
TE and RB will likely bite chunks of yardage out the middle. Another thing is the Duck secondary have a Florida mentality. They hold the jerseys of big WRs to prevent them from using their physical advantages. CBJ must make sure the refs watch for this and call the interference consistently.
It does look like it's best to do straight ahead bulldozing on running plays, the Duck DL front is easily mowed. So our OL must not be aggressive on run plays, but downright evil with the most malicious intent. The RBs must not hesitate because Duck pursuit is fast.
