Watched the Oregon-Kansas Sate game late last night. Went to sleep before it was over. But what I saw or think I saw is this:

Be aware of where De’Anthony is at all times. The guy is freaking bullet with guided missile properties.

The Duck QB must be knocked down. Even on passing plays if the slightest gap is open, he takes off gets a 1st down or better. The idea seems to be to not hesitate to go for a 1st down via QB run if opportunity presents itself, no matter what play is called. So if LBs rush in and don’t get the QB and the secondary is 10-20 yards downfield, the chains are going to move. I believe he’s coached to actually watch for such opportunities as opposed to being locked into the called play. So in essence, every Duck play is a potential QB draw.

The Duck defense is fast. Our vaunted OL can’t afford to be stood up on rushing plays because if that happens the Duck corner rush will come in rocket fast. The OL has to knock people down so holes are made. I saw why our WRs coach insists on WRs who can block. With the Ducks you darn well better because they get by you, it will cost you big time.

I think it is important to put our big WRs on the field at the same time. I noticed that the Ducks often double teamed the big tall guys on KSU. If you have to contend with two such WRs, it means the
TE and RB will likely bite chunks of yardage out the middle. Another thing is the Duck secondary have a Florida mentality. They hold the jerseys of big WRs to prevent them from using their physical advantages. CBJ must make sure the refs watch for this and call the interference consistently.

It does look like it's best to do straight ahead bulldozing on running plays, the Duck DL front is easily mowed. So our OL must not be aggressive on run plays, but downright evil with the most malicious intent. The RBs must not hesitate because Duck pursuit is fast.

sadly i agree.

Obviously I'm hoping for a win, but I think this game could be hugely demoralizing for our squad and it will likely carry over to Florida the next week.

That's where Butch Has to earn his check. Hopefully he can motivate better than Dooley.

The ducks have two dangerous in meriota and thomas, our O must run the ball effectively as TOP wil be a critical factor. On D spy meriota and thomas and account for the TEs . The key to stopping any offense is defending the basic plays every offense runs. :dunno:

If only it were that simple. I think every team on their schedule tried that same gameplan last year.

I think we hang around for the first half. After that depth will begin to show its ugly head. Can't wait for the 2014 class to get here.

One thing I noticed about the bearcats is that they got better as the season went on....the exact opposite of Dooley's teams. I think Butch can motivate and get the team better. Dooley was very pessimistic...too much at times and talked down about the team or even specific players and I think the team takes on the personality of their coach. As a result, each stumble and/or loss caused us to lose confidence, have divison amongst the team and play worse.

Butch is much more optimistic and outgoing. I think he will keep the team focused and getting better even after a loss.

Didn't LSU whip em pretty good 2 years ago? Oregon is a good team, but we still represent the SEC and our talent will be just fine against theirs. The real area of importance will be the coaching.

I watch the O vs Stanford game, in which Stanford won. Stanford basically keep QB contained and made him be a QB, they still ran some and completed allot of passes (screens are a big part of their game and YAK) So tackling is key.

You mean the National Championship participant LSU? The LSU that beats us 38-7?

The difference between CDD and CBJ is Butch is in the mix on the practice field and Dooley was the CEO who over seen practice, as the Cincinnati players said CBJ is a players coach.

Tennessee has nowhere near the talent that the 2011 LSU team had. And it actually was a touchdown game in the 4th quarter.

We need to show more speed on defense than we've seen it recent years. The scouting report to beat our D has been embarassingly simple: run the ball outside, beat the guy to the edge, turn up field and you're guaranteed a 6-10 yd gain.

They were up 24-7 by midway in the 3rd quarter. Why do we need to make stuff up to make ourselves feel better? It's in the past, Dooley sucked. We got smoked quite often and this game was one of them. Absolutely dominated from the beginning of the 2nd quarter on.

What the hell are you talking about? Did you read the post I was responding to? I was talking about the LSU-Oregon game in 2011.

On d keep the qb in the pocket he is a heck of a runner. I'm sure his passing will be improved but would rather take my chances against his arm instead of his feet. We will give up some big plays probably cause they always hit a few. This is where I believe the coaching will be our biggest change this year.
On offense be physical and control the line of scrimmage. Run the ball and run the ball again, we' all have to keep the ball away from them. It needs to be the ugliest game very on TV. Boring ole school football, like UT used to play great fundamental defense and a ball control grind the clock offense. Everyone will call it ugly but there's nothing ugly about a UT upset.

Doh, my bad. I associated you with the guy that equated our talent to a NC participant because we play in the SEC.

Even though we've only won 2 games in the SEC the past two years, we represent the SEC so we automatically have NC-level talent. Thought you knew.

Considering the prior year to that we actually beat LSU, I'd say we had pretty darn good talent and still do. It hasn't been coached properly at any position outside of the offensive line. Thought you knew that.
