Aside from Oregon, who the hell has looked like a serious contender this year? Oh, let me guess. Same old, same old. Georgia (even with the two losses, you know they love glazing that doggie doughnut), Ohio State, and maybe Texas. Right? So maybe three teams?

Did McElroy say that everyone else didn't look like a contender either? Or was just about Tennessee? Because if Tennessee doesn't "look like a contender," then neither does anyone else outside the top 3-4 teams. Bet he didn't say that about anyone else though. Bet Penn State and Notre Dame and all the rest got a big ol' pass.

I don’t know…this stuff just doesn’t offend, surprise, or move my emotions meter at all! These guys in sport talk ramble on for hours. I can only imagine what inane rubbish I would say after talking that long. At the end of the proverbial day…does it actually matter? Hey…let’s tee it up Saturday and get this playoff train rolling!

Yea, I'm not offended. I think he's just saying he doesn't see us, or Indiana, or Boise State or the Big 12 cham as being real title contenders. But if we could somehow turn the switch and our passing game start clicking then we would be a threat to Georgia, Oregon, Texas, etc.
Play calling has got to get better.

Kanell is either the biggest heel in national college football media, or an utter loon.
I love how Big 10 teams and idiots like Kanell spout that nonsense as if it is some kind of knock on SEC teams. They want to play pretend that they are on the same level as the SEC but then argue that they basically have to have a built in weather advantage in order to beat our teams.

He is absolutely correct, Offense isn’t explosive at all this year. I would be stoked to make the playoffs and win a game. That would be a great season with a RS Frosh QB
Funny, I don’t seem to recall the Bama team he played on having an explosive offense. They won with, wait for it, a dominant defense and a strong running game.

lol Tennessee is in the playoff picture because other teams in their conference lost. Well color me surprised. That’s some bulletproof stuff. And so is every other team who is ranked higher than teams that lost. Isn’t that how sports work?
I said at the start of the season that I thought the last 2 teams standing in the SEC would have 2 losses. After looking at the schedules I just thought that the SEC is just too tough for a team to go thru it unscathed. Will be interesting Saturday; are more upsets on the horizon? Will Ga Tech take care of UGA? Auburn - Alabama?
TX - TX A&M? I wouldn't bet on any of those teams.

Weird thing about this thread. I was a tech writer for a while and words matter. Contender is defined as someone competing for a championship. If we get into the playoffs, he’s wrong because we meet that definition at that point. Just saying.

The offense starts with the $8M WonderBoy.....Yes, I know he's a freshman but it just hasn't "clicked" for him yet. That final play vs the Hogs still haunts me.

My thoughts exactly!

He is absolutely right in the fact we have not looked like a team that can win a NC. Not sure why everyone is attacking him. I believe we could be but to this point we have not once looked like a contender. We looked good against really bad teams, mediocre against ok to bad teams and not very good against UGA (Alabama is not a really good team) If Nico becomes more accurate I think this changes everything. Our playbook opens up, our run game gets even better and we become less predictable. We clearly have a defense that is good enough. I think it could come together, and really I think it will but there is no proof to go on at this point.
