Several teams are better than Bama. They just aren’t very good this year.

I dont know man. They manhandled Georgia until they got so far ahead they thought they had the game in the bag and almost threw it away.

They are just extremely inconsistent, especially Milroe. He’s been all over the place this season.

I really don’t think anyone is great this season. Oregon and maybe OSU are the only teams the Vols haven’t played that scare me.

I've thought our D made us a NC contender, but our D didn't get it done vs. UGA--virtually no pressure on Beck. UGA's two losses were due to pressure on Beck. We let him pick us apart. Either we had a bad game defensively and it can be corrected or we can't beat the likes of UGA, OSU or Oregon. We're not going to score more than 20 against those teams, so we have to play elite D to have any chance of beating them.

It’s great to be in top 7 and know there are no really great teams this year! I.e. ones you know you can’t beat. Because it means your team is in the circle of top teams. It’s the feeling you have arrived.
It also means you’re open to full criticism from all circles. Because they are jockying for their team and their positions and it goes through you! It’s not personal - these shots are really a compliment to where Heupel has taken us - to the top tier. Not champions yet - but definite threat to the alabama’s and georgia’s and notre dames and clemsons and miami’s. That’s why they are trying to keep their teams equal or better by disparaging. It’s only words - keep playing the game Vols! Take Vandy seriously and just go perform!

How is he wrong?

Offense needs to play better in order for us to be a contender.

If we do that then yeah I think we can beat anyone on any given day. There is some work to do though and if they click they can get it done

It's called parity, and we have it like never before. There isn't a single team in the country that hasn't shown weaknesses. Of course, it's a long shot for us to win it all, but we've also shown that we can play with anybody. There are several teams in that same boat. You'd think a Rhodes Scholar would get that.

I have been inclined to agree that we have not looked/played like a contender for a NC ( way too inconsistent ) but then I look at the rest of the field and see teams get beat each week that are up and down just like us ( see Old Miss). This year, any team playing their best can win it all so I say put us in the mix and hope we bring our A game

If the Vols hadn’t beaten Alabama they would be considered a great two-loss team and would be talked up as likely contender to bounce back and win the natty.

I hope pre-playoff practice helps the passing game gel.

Our DLine has to dominate any opponent for our secondary to hold up. We are lacking elite Dwayne Goodrich talent back there. I am pretty excited for the future in the secondary, but they are a bit under-developed this season. We are just green.
If our DLine is neutralized, like UGA managed, our defense is ordinary. If our defense is ordinary, our offense does not have the firepower to equalize things.

And not only did we beat them, if we beat Vandy, we will have beaten 2 teams on the road, where Bama lost to those same two teams in the same stadiums. (We really need to beat Vandy).

The ONLY reason he extended the olive branch before was because of the horrible era we went through with all of the coaching changes and we weren’t a threat. He’s been on one about us since ‘22 now that we’re winning again.

That was solely on coaching and Banks had a very passive scheme the entire game until it was too late. We thought Beck would play to Trend of coughing up the ball or just making dumb mistakes as opposed to sticking with pressure and forcing quicker decision making.

I fully expect for us to be very aggressive this weekend.
