Durant Can't Bench 185

I'll take Durant and the other guy can have Noah.
exactly. In fact, ya'll can have Conley and Noah if I get Durant. Did you read the part about Durant having the second longest wingspan in the draft - even longer than Oden's? That type of freakishness is scary. It's like McHale, but with range, a face-up game and some handle.

Yea I am not a NBA fan, but this sub 185 thing is useless. That guy is the real deal. His bench press would not be an issue at all.

I wouldn't call him a freak when the only stat he beats Oden in is out of his control.

Oden jumped 34 inches in the vertical leap while Durant jumped 33½ inches, completed the agility drill in 11.67 seconds to Durant's 12.33 seconds, and finished the three-quarter court sprint in 3.27 seconds, ahead of Durant's 3.45 seconds, according to the report.
Durant, however, had a 7-4¾ wingspan, which ranked second among all prospects and measured a half-inch wider than Oden's wingspan.

But then again, with all of the fighting, brawling and thuggery that happens in the NBA he might want to at least get it to around 225. Just for protection of course.

6'9" with 7'5" wingspan is genetically freakish.. Lack of big hops would also be genetic, as would sprinting speed etc. The part he can control is basketball skill, which requires work and practice -there he beats Oden like a red-headed......

My point is you can work and practice to jump higher, run faster and get stronger. I have yet to come across a way to lengthen my arms or get taller. They are things a human (outside of the Chinese trying) can't control.

so Larry Bird couldn't jump/run because of his lack of work ethic? had nothing to do with limited fast-twitch muscle fiber. Strength, one can certainly improve and I agree that Durant should be working at it.

I guess that's why Jordan started lifting weights to get stronger after the Pistons were beating the crap out of him year after year in the playoffs.

You can still IMPROVE those things no matter how limited you are. I think his point was that he isn't a freaky athlete like Kobe, LeBron T-Mac, D-Wade etc.

We are talking about right now. I don't think he is planning on never working out or getting stronger.

Of course Durant looks like he will be great but he will have to get bigger and stronger and he will. He will get knocked around if he plays sf/pf in the NBA if he doesn't get stronger from head to toe. I promise you KG doesn't bench 185.

When Durant develops Bird's jump-shot I will agree. Heck, I'll even go buy his jersey. :)

Obviously we are talking about right now. And of course he will get stronger it is just shocking that he is so weak. Also he doesn't appear to be a freak of an athlete like some people thought. He his obviously a hell of a b-ball player though!

Actually, he can.

He comes home in the summers, and works out with a few of my friends every now and then. I've shot hoops with him and lifted with him...he's no powerhouse, but he can bench 200+ no problem.

Durant will be one of the better shooters in the league and the best 6'9" or bigger shooter, but asking him to rival Bird is a bit much.

You disregarded the part about hard work not helping Bird jump higher.

That's what I meant, he can bench more than that. Should have been clearer.

That is another point though and why people are talking about this so much. Durant isn't as gifted as KG but will be playing the sf/pf role. At this point he would get abused in the paint and doesn't have the leaping ability of say a KG. Just stuff to think about as he will still be the 2nd pick.

KG. Durant has more basketball skills (shooting, handling) as an 18 year old than KG is ever going to have, period.

I didn't. Anyone can work hard and you will be able to jump higher. Doesn't mean you'll have a 30 or 40 inch vertical but you can improve. Same thing for speed and agility.

I was just kidding around with ya. (Bird was also listed at 6'9")

Hard work may not have helped his vertical but he put the time into other areas. I don't think a jump shot is a God-given attribute.

um.... no KG came directly from high school and was effective his rookie year. He is a multiple all star and first team NBA player.

I tend to agree. I'm impressed that Durant has a 33 inch vertical without apparently much if any weight training. Get him hard in the weight room for a year, that could improve to a 40 inch vertical. Those guys tend to make monster improvements in the first year of weight training.

tell me about Garnett's basketball skills.

Garnett is a 7 footer with some athletic ability and 'decent' skills. He can't shoot well and handles poorly. Durant can shoot circles around him, can handle the ball on the wing. I'd give KG the edge in rebounding and on D with shot blocking. That is because he is 7 feet tall and has nothing to do with skill level.
