So you went to a game and sat and watched an offensive lineman who wasn't committed to us or even being talked about as a possible take for us at the time? Sounds like BS to me.
And what do you know about evaluating offensive linemen anyways? How did you learn how to judge technique and potential?
you would think so. i like high school football and was in cincy so me and my buddy i was visiting went to the game. he was committed to cincy at the time there were players on both teams that were playing that were going to D 1 schools. i also caught the championship game between archbishop which beat colerain and toledo whitmer. game was pretty good. unlike you Phil i do watch alot of football on all levels. with me evaluating a olineman is just an observation when i say i didn't see anything special. nothing really stood out. he played ok, was beat acouple of times, but held his own most of the game. he sure as hell didn't dominate though.
I'll tell you what, when you start getting paid millions of dollars per season to coach then I will take your word for it.
Let me know when that happens. from the sound of your knowledge I expect it any day.
i just don't see it bro, and this guy i have seen play. i'll say the samething as i said about hill last year. nothing special. if this is the best jones can do he will never make it here.
You expect the best after being on the job a month, with a large part of that during the dead period? If your mind is made up already then there is no need to get more information on Vol message boards or to even watch a single game.
The press conference I watched said we were trying to win SEC Championships. It also said we were hiring the best coaching staff in America.
When Florida hired Urban they weren't thinking of just stopping the losing that Zook had brought. When Georgia hired Richt, they weren't thinking of beating Vandy. We didn't build that incredible football facility to compete with the schools you are naming. Thinking like that and setting the bar that low won't produce championships and get us back in the national discussion anytime soon.
there is no excitement, hell sonny dykes is doing better than jones, and gus put together a better staff.
Well, do those look like two teams who you could throw your full support behind?
Auburn had a down year, but has a national championship since UT had a winning season.
Dykes is at Cal. Their record over the past few seasons is similar to UT's but recruiting in California is much more fertile than trying to recruit in the nations best conference, in one of the more talent depleted states.
Jones is installing a new system, a whole new staff except for Jay Graham, and had guys who Dooley had recruited that for any number of reasons had to be told to look elsewhere. In essence, he is starting from scratch and is well behind the proverbial 8 ball.
Take a step back for a minute and wait and see how it all plays out. We are still 10 recruits short, so there are plenty of slots for very strong recruits.
What I see isn't blowing my doors off, but a realistic evaluation is a full-year away. What I do see is a whole bunch of noise in the 2014 class. When was the last time you saw this much interest in UT over a year out? I can't recall a time under Dooley I saw that.
Should Jones give you a call to make you feel better? Or do you just prefer to be "that guy" trying to make everyone feel as bad as you do?

i would like a call from jones to see what the gameplan is because right now alot of UT fans are confused. i'm confused.
also looks like clay will be our next commit, a guy with an even worse offer list than dylan. i'm sorry i'm just not getting what he is trying to do. it is going to be hard to win in the sec with mac athletes.
What are you confused about?
Look at the Rivals recruiting rankings.
UT is 33rd with 17 recruits. If memory serves, we have spots for 10 more recruits this year.
Only Auburn, Clemson, USC, Texas, Florida State and USC are ranked higher than us and have fewer recruits.
If you look at the schools ranked higher than us on that list, how many have had three losing seasons in a row? My cursory review of that list doesn't reveal any right away, but maybe with a more in-depth analysis I could find a few. I doubt that there would be more than one or two if there are any.
So many on here claim that three star recruits are terrible, and that Jones isn't going after great recruits. 15 schools are ranked above us that have fewer 3 star recruits than we do. In the SEC only Bama, Florida and LSU have a class with fewer 3 star players than we do currently and are also ranked above us.
If you rearrange the list so that it ranks us with the average star ranking for our class, we are 23rd. Only 4 of those teams have fewer recruits than we do.
I admit, We are currently 11th in the SEC by recruiting points. But out of all of the NCAA only Auburn, Clemson, Texas and USC are ranked higher than us and have fewer total recruits for their class.
What all of this says is that we have a small but relatively solid class in the works. As we continue to add recruits, even average 3 star players, we will continue to climb the ratings as quantity is almost rewarded as much as quality. As has been said repeatedly we are also in the conversation for some of the nations best prospects. There is one month from today until national signing day.
Until then, none of this matters unless you are just prone to hyperventilation.
I agree that winning the recruiting battle can most likely translate to wins on the field, given a competent coach. UT has had the talent on the roster to go 5-3 in the SEC with someone who doesn't hinder our talent, and we went 1-7. Vandy had the worst talent in the SEC and went 5-3, but Franklin is the exception.
Look at the recruiting arc under Spurrier at South Carolina. His teams still average about 18th over a four year span.
Talent is a rebuttable presumption of a win, coaching is what causes the upsets.
Butch has shown that he can outperform with his talent level. In the SEC, with victories, will come better recruits. I am amazed that UT has been relatively stable on the recruiting trail given the mediocre performance on the field. I don't see many other teams who can lose for so many years and still finish top 25 in recruiting.
