No real surprises IMO. I have been skeptical of all the speculation about Freshmen starters. Moseley must have really impressed the coaches though. He has the speed no doubt, but I didn't expect he would be ready.

You are right.. Most posters thought that a lot TR freshman would come in and start all over the place before game 1... Simply does not happen in this league. 2 deep yes

Gaulden will overtake Moseley before the start of season.

I think Riyad Jones has the best chance to move up to a starting CB spot. I'm pulling for him anyway. The injury last year was some really tough luck.

Brief video clips can be misleading....

If you actually KNOW something... then spit it out. Otherwise, what we have is brief video clips, the comments of observers, and the actions of the coaches.

Dobbs may get his turn tomorrow to run with the 1's. But so far it has been Worley and NP.

You are just a bundle of contradictions. You defend Jones... then act like he has no idea what he's doing concerning the QB's. You praise his recruiting of players with fairly limited knowledge of them... then question his decisions concerning guys he's been working closely with for two years now.

Is your inconsistency a sincere flaw... or do you just try to play devil's advocate causing you to be so scattered?

Some guys can't do it while the band is playing. That kid was so nervous and tore up last year, I never want to see him take another snap. I could not care less about how highly rated he was. The big state schools didn't want him.

And we don't want to see you and your negative attitude on here but you still hang around.

I have not heard anything on Jakob Johnson. Is there any info on him?

What do you base this on? Butch has said that it's an open competition, if he out performs both in fall camp, doesn't he get a shot at starting?

"Depth chart shuffle: We expected there to be plenty of depth chart shuffling throughout camp and we saw a few new faces getting reps on Monday. Nathan Peterman got reps as the first-team quarterback, while Joshua Dobbs and Justin Worley split time with the twos. With no quarterback named, it makes sense that Butch Jones would give reps to multiple guys to let them play out the competition."

My first statement was based on this..... mixing and matching, like you said, creating an open competition environment.

However, my opinion that there is no possible way that Peterman moves or has moved ahead of Dobbs is based on their respective performances last year. Dobbs had a much larger sample size than Peterman, and although Dobbs at times played very poorly as a true freshman, his worst performance was better by tenfold than Peterman's absolutely atrocious and historically bad first half vs Florida. I'll also add that Brent Hubbs said point blank, soon after Spring practice during the Ferguson exodus, that "Peterman was a complete non factor during the Spring".

Now, is it possible that Peterman can rebound, redeem himself and overtake Dobbs as the backup?? I guess it is, and if he does I'll be pulling for him. But I just don't see it. Jmo.

Edit: from RockyTop Insider...

QB update: Still not a lot of great news to report, though we saw a small bit of improvement on Monday. Joshua Dobbs had some good throws, but is still sailing some of them. Justin Worley is underthrowing a lot of balls. Nathan Peterman didn’t hurt himself in what we saw of his work with the first team, though it’s still difficult to see him really getting in the mix at this point. He’s done some good things in camp. We’ll keep an eye on him going forward.

Not sure if this has been said, but I really hope Blair makes a move before the end of the week and wins his starting spot. I like that the 1st team o-line is developing and working together consistently and if Gilliam really is the man at LT for the Vols this year, that's cool. However, it doesn't sound competitive to me at this point. I mean, maybe he isn't going to cut it at LT yet, but move him to the right side. Let Coleman redshirt and develop even more and try to tap some potential somewhere besides the second team. All that has been said is that Blair is greatly improved...and he still hasn't beat the former walk-on. I just hope the competition develops a bit more along the offensive front. These boys need to be pushing each other. Not knocking Gilliam AT ALL. I did think we brought this ole boy in to start day one though. Definitely not a bust, but I am a little disappointed.

Peterman was ahead of Dobbs last year until he was injured. It's quite possible that Peterman would have played much more last season had he not been injured at UF. If Worley doesn't get injured Dobbs never sees the field and gets a redshirt. My point is Worley and Peterman were clearly the top two QB's coming out of fall camp last season, and it would not surprise me to see the same thing this year. But, I think Worley is clearly ahead of everyone at this point.

Its early... It will shuffle in the next few weeks due to injuries and players stepping up. I think its always a big mistake for coaches not to pick a starting QB by fall and go with him. Gives too much room for fan pressure and coaches to second guess their selves.

The old saying is if you have two starting qbs, you have no qbs unless you are Spurrier.

We haven't even started to "scrimmage" yet.

I'm almost 100% certain that no one has a real grasp on what's really going on.

As far as QBs... This is the second year with the same guys. They should pick this position by fall and have a leader on offense... Jmo

Any chance that the report of Worley's under thrown passes were referring to the back shoulders passes in that video? I saw 3-4 that were dead on back shoulder passes, but to someone just walking up it could have looked under thrown.

Peterman would've played a lot more last season had he not been injured vs Florida? Did you see him play that first half vs Florida? That was absolutely the worst, most incompetent half of football I've ever seen a QB play. It's easy to point to his passing stats.... He QB rating was .7, not 70 or 7, but .7 ... but it was much more than that. For one quick example, he couldn't get the team lined up correctly as evidenced by Raijon's fumble deep in Fla territory early in the game... the DE ran completely free and caused the fumble because Peterman had us in the wrong play/alignment.

He was 100% rattled from the opening snap, completely flummoxed, totally out of his league the entire first half and never showed a single sign of snapping out of it and settling down. I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Nathan Peterman for his attitude and work ethic since, but that performance, IMHO, sealed his fate as a UT quarterback. As poorly as Joshua Dobbs played at times, including the Vandy game when he too had an injured throwing hand, he was worlds better than Peterman last year.

Looks like we watched the same game KB. Horrible is an understatement.

With that being said I'm not ready to give up on em. He has all the physical tools to be a really good qb.
