If you go to 247, they do a ranking where they combine the high school recruiting class with the portal class. But, it doesn't factor in the players you lose to the portal.

As for elite, I don't think we've quite made it there. I think we're just the tier below. Doesn't mean we can't compete with the elite on the field, but we're not overflowing with the talent that teams like Bama, Texas, and UGA have on their rosters.
Heupel's transfer classes have also been a lot better than the rankings initially guess too. Omarr / McCoy / Kitselman / Pili have all vastly outperformed their rankings.

I don’t care for the transfer rankings, they are worse than ESPNs.

That’s why I said just use rankings for recruits. They don’t matter for transfers. Look at impact. Our transfers have made a bigger impact than most elsewhere

Velus (pro)
Lott (will be a pro)
Bru (will be a pro)
Brazzell (will probably be a pro)
McCoy (will be a pro)
Hooker (pro)
Milton (pro)
Tiyon (pro)
Etc etc

So the committed players we're waiting on to sign:
David Sanders, Jr.
Nic Moore

And two committed players who won't sign with Tennessee today (Darrion Smith signing with Auburn and Onis Konanbanny not signing today).

And the uncommitted players we're waiting on to sign:
Isaiah Campbell
Tim Merritt

And of course, whatever small amount of hope we may hold out for Shady Hayward.

Do I have all that right?
I've seen articles saying Onis signs today either with UT or Florida, everything else seems accurate

We're beating those elite schools for more and more recruits lately, though. In the past few years, we've beaten Georgia and Alabama for guys like Hobbs, Gibson, Arion Carter, Squirrel, Matthews, and JPJ.

In this class, we beat out Georgia for Gass, Travis Smith (also Bama), and Harmon (also Bama), and beating Ohio State for Dye and Sanders, Jr.

The schools we're beating for signees seems to be getting better and better.

Looking for the list of recruits with names and their hometowns. I love all the Vols but, especially look forward to following the local or Tennessee signees. I have read a battleship full of posts this morning. I'll sum my comment up to say...if I look at where we were with Butch and Cornbread to where we are with CJH....I am satisfied with his recruiting, coaching, developing, staffing, etc. Nobody is perfect. It took Saban and Kirby some time to get to where they were/are. Go Vols. Appreciate all your comments. Hope things work out to where we play one more game in Neyland 2024 and make it to the final 10 in CFB rankings when all said and done.

Perlotte, I believe.

There's no need to get defensive. We're not doing bad in recruiting. But it's not a lie to say we're still not recruiting to the level of other schools, YET. I think our staff is above average in what they do with the talent they get, but we're not signing multiple 5*'s a class like these other schools do. And we may never reach that level. But where this staff excels is putting their players in a position to win.

Yep all is correct plus it looks like 4* LB Perlotte flips from USC trojans to the good guys also.

I'm not defensive. I agree with you. I was just pointing out a positive trend.

If the closing two weeks of this cycle consist of :

Losing: D Smith
Losing: Shady
Losing: Onis
Gaining: Morris
Gaining: Campbell
Gaining: Perlotte
Gaining: Merritt

...and holding everyone else, then I think the staff & collective have closed very well.

That gives you a strong enough base that you can contend for championships year in and year out with good development, smart portal management and solid coaching.

Shady would be the only loss I'm concerned about. But adding Morris, Campbell, Perlotte, and Merritt way more than makes up for it.

Also...we held onto Sanders. Biggest win of all.

Portal opens on Monday, and we'll see who is still left out there in the high school ranks for second season recruiting building toward the February signing day.

The elite schools are coming back to the field because of the portal. A 5* isn't going to sit at Georgia for a year or two like before

Just trimming the fat at this point.
