Actually, Peterman was a RS Freshman last year so technically he was Dooley's recruit as was Worley. So in all honesty, there is only one true "recruit" from CBJ and that's Dobbs. Dobbs followed him from Cincy IIRC. Ferg was already in the late stages of being recruited when Dooley was fired and stayed on when CBJ came on board so credit could be given to both of the coaches.
But on the rest of the post...
There are the people in the middle that aren't blaming the coaches or the players, but understand that this team is young and Worley has big shoes to fill. Coming in behind Bray wasn't an easy task and we all feel a little let down by expecting this huge performance out of the Gatorade Player of the Year. But remembering this is his first full year as a starter and he hasn't really been coached the past three years.
And concurrently, the receivers had big shoes to fill as well. Coming in behind Rogers (both), Rivera, Hunter and Patterson was not an easy job. One looks at them and sees how easy it looks when they prance around on the field and head into the end zone. And again, some of these new receivers were playing high school ball last year and have come to the roughest conference in NCAA ball to get a quick education. And there will be some rough spots as we've seen and will continue to see over the next few games.
And how about Palardy? Funny thing after he missed that FG attempt last game, a lot of people were quick to jump on here and scream about how he hasn't changed. Funny because until that attempt he was .100 and .100 in FG and PAT for the season. And he's still .100 in PAT and 4 for 5 in FG attempts. And the fact the holder had his hand in the way? Yeah, that escapes some people.
And the coaches? Well, the coaches...they knew coming in here this was an uphill climb and this program was in the shambles. First and foremost, they had to establish discipline. Then focus on the fundamentals which it appears is still in progress. And implementing a completely new system in UT that has never been tried here and most of our players have never used before. To say he has a lot of work cut out is an understatement,
Now sure, mistakes have been made. Can't think of a Div 1 FBS coach out there so far this year that hasn't made a mistake. I just tend to think CBJ gets his magnified over the fact we've been let down so many times this past five, six, seven years? And too many people are quick to jump the gun and claim "he's no better than the old one we just got rid of!" For crying out loud, at least Dooley got a fair shot for one season and was well into the second season before people started to come to the conclusion he wasn't cutting the mustard.
So there are some of us in the middle that see the fact the players are young and inexperienced. And see the fact the coaches are basically going from trap in the toilet bowl and heading upwards. New school for the coaching staff, new starters taking the field for the first time, new offensive system, changing the defense three times in as many years, trying to instill the winning attitude and even going in to games with their heads held high knowing they are about to take a beating. It's not as easy task for any of them and some of us know that and appreciate it. And are willing to cut the entire team some slack by understanding the monumental task in front of them.
Not directed at you in particular SJT, just a long winded rant of mine.
