There are other places to get that money from. It may sound cruel, but the lives of individual humans shouldn't be detracting from furthering the collective knowledge of the human race.

You may be referring to the indirect consequences of not providing for those less fortunate, but I think this statement is ethically unsound.

Sorry but you're wrong. Human needs should be put above everything else. The discovery of life on a planet that is unreachable should never be placed above the needs of human beings.

The needs of the human race is to one day be able to get off this rock.

It needs to be done. There's enough wealth in the world to support it all but for some reason it's always a struggle to fund anything.

yet you're ok with placing the needs of a few current humans above those of all future generations? If we're just going on sheer numbers you're placing the smaller one in front of the larger which makes no sense

100 years ago the moon and Mars were defined as unreachable. Things change as technology progresses

I believe it is beyond arrogant to think there cannot be intelligent life somewhere in the universe, there just has to be.

That being said, I think back to the movie Battleship. Do we really want to find them or them find us? The line in that movie about the Conquistadors just might be the case. When (in human history) hasn't an advanced civilization attempted to conquer a less advanced one?

I believe Genesis mentions him creating the heavens.
New living translation of Colossians 1:16

"For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him."

If we could actually travel much faster than light and were able to explore space effectively, then I could see the benefit. However we are nowhere even remotely close to breaking the speed of light barrier, which is theoretically impossible. The moon and mars were not 500 light years away.

Yes technology progresses and furthers us as human beings. So why not worry about looking for alien life when the technology is available? If that's 100 years from now, then fine.

Also how would spending less money on finding life on other planets hurt future generations?

It's kind of interesting that while the bible does mention the heavens, the entire book takes place on Earth. So, if God did create other life in the universe, he must have been a bastard father to them because they are never mentioned.

What if they have a completely different version of the bible full of totally different events? What if there are many different earths in the universe? There could be a trillion other earths and if there are, who knows what God has done for them? Why do people put so many limits on God?

The bible puts those universal limits on God.

So you think humans will out live the planet earth? Not likely.

It's only possible if we have a place to go and a way to get there. As you have pointed out its a colossal task so we better start working on it sooner rather than later if there is going to be a chance.

there is a big rock coming this way that has Earth written on it,when they are going to meet,no one knows

for the human race to keep going,it is imperative that we explore and expand to other planets ,so researching earth like planets seems to be a very good idea to me

just think how short of a warning we had before Jupiter was struck years ago by several asteroids, that is a close call by galactic standards,it is going to happen,it is just a matter of when

if we are still on one planet, that will be the end of us humans,I think that research and exploration must happen,to insure that we humans have a future

When God decides time is up, it will not matter what planet we are on. That could be tomorrow or it could be a billion years from now. Also humans are not going to out live the earth. Also there are no limits to God's abilities, regardless of what you might want to believe.

Keep believing that finding another planet to live on is important. Don't you think we should learn a lot more about our own planet before worrying about others?
