Got 2-3 inches in Maryville off Montvale Road and it's still snowing for some reason??????

Sad to see temperatures are going to rise back up limiting a chance for snow in Knoxville for the next 15 days or so, according to the Weather Channel.

I will say, last Wednesday was awesome.

Here's an interesting post from David Aldrich:

@ Christmas time, with record rainfall, surrounded by 3 record highs, some of you thought "winter is over."
I responded, "be patient."
But now, the pattern has changed. We may get some warm days, but they are not likely to last. In fact, some of the best snows in this pattern will sneak up on you...with just a few days notice.

Since the Knoxville snow didnt show up, I got the family loaded and went to where I knew it would be all day. Ober Gatlinburg. Lol

Good news & bad news...depending on your point of view.
We're headed back into the 60s by this weekend.
But as I said in an earlier thread, warm days in this pattern will not likely last. Expect to be BACK into the DEEP FREEZE by Friday, February 5th.

Here's David's confidence cast on the temps this weekend and the temps late next week.

~Severe Weather Bulletin~

This bulletin is mainly for those in Middle and West Tennessee, but folks in East Tennessee do need to keep an eye on this upcoming system. There's a strong shortwave trough that will move into the area on Tuesday, which will bring a chance for Strong to Severe Thunderstorms. There's still quite a bit of time until the event, so we will have to keep an eye on it.

Hopefully not another tornado outbreak like the one before Christmas.

Update:

Here's the probability map for Severe weather on Tuesday. I'll say this, whenever an area is highlighted in the day 4-8 outlook by the NWS SPC, there's a good chance for a significant Severe thunderstorm event.

According to the map, all of the major cities in Tennessee except the Tri-Cities need to be watching this system.

I look more for the central locations within the map. That's usually the bullseye. Right now, the bullseye appears to be Alabama, Mississippi, and middle TN.

Update:

Here's the latest Severe Weather probabilities on Tuesday. For folks in Middle and West Tennessee, you're now in the 30% area (meaning you guys have at least an enhanced risk for Severe Thunderstorms). The interesting thing is that there will be weak instability when the storms move into Tennessee. That usually doesn't bode well for Severe Thunderstorms, but there is very strong wind shear and that alone could produce some tornadoes and damaging winds.

As for East TN, it appears right now that the instability will be even weaker, but the very high wind profiles will provide a damaging wind threat (especially for those in the southern valley). Having said that, if the low doesn't go as far north as the models are currently thinking, then the Severe threat could increase. We should start to get a better idea of what to expect in the next 2-3 days.

I'm still waiting for the snow to melt off my driveway

I did scuff up my car on the side of the house, when I was backing out, thank goodness that the house wasn't hurt and only a scuff mark on the front left fender

I was backing up and gave it a bit of gas,the whole car slide to the left, which is down hill and I barely got it off the house :)

I'm blaming it on the car being a front wheel drive

Update:

At this time, my interest in this storm is starting to lessen for folks in East Tennessee on Tuesday. The system appears to be slowing down, which will cause a western shift in the Severe risk area. The brunt of the storms won't get into our area until after midnight, which doesn't bode well for the storms. The greatest threat for any Severe Thunderstorms will be west of Knoxville.

As for folks in Nashville and areas west of the city, you're still on track to see Severe Thunderstorms. The primary threat will be damaging to destructive winds up to 70 mph. A few tornadoes are also possible, especially for people in West Tennessee.

Note: There's still time for this to change, so I'll continue to watch this system as we get closer to Tuesday.
