Both Colt backs have looked good at times this year, but the team is not better off without James.
It's also a little unfair to say he jumped for the money. As I understand it, the Colts were basically faced with the choice of paying either he or Wayne their market value. They chose Wayne. Would you stay with a company who was unwilling to pay what you could make on the open market?

In a very real sense they have proven to be better off without him. They are in the Super Bowl.
Is that because they lost a pro bowl running back and replaced him with a career back-up and a rookie?
I would say more important reasons are that the Patriots are down, Marty can't win a playoff game, the Colt defense played exceptionally well in the playoffs, and Manning finally hit his stride in the second half the Pats game. Eventually, Addai may be as good as James was in Indy, but he isn't now.
That's all nice and well, but how is the team not better off? It is about winning games.
Is James the only difference between this year's team and last? More importantly, is his absence the reason they are in the Super Bowl this year? Do you really think the current tandem is better at running, or blocking, or protecting the passer, than James?
The Colt's did not upgrade by losing James. They have coped with the loss and advanced farther in the playoffs. It is not because of the loss.
