I wonder if he is still counting his money with the cards?!?!? The Colts are better off with a SEC boy anyway. :salute:

Both Colt backs have looked good at times this year, but the team is not better off without James.

It's also a little unfair to say he jumped for the money. As I understand it, the Colts were basically faced with the choice of paying either he or Wayne their market value. They chose Wayne. Would you stay with a company who was unwilling to pay what you could make on the open market?

Greed:sick: , Edge had to take the money and run. Well, he didn't do a lot of running this year. But I guess the money is/was his only motivation. How important is a Super Bowl ring to him? He'll never get one playing in the desert!

In a very real sense they have proven to be better off without him. They are in the Super Bowl.

Is that because they lost a pro bowl running back and replaced him with a career back-up and a rookie?

I would say more important reasons are that the Patriots are down, Marty can't win a playoff game, the Colt defense played exceptionally well in the playoffs, and Manning finally hit his stride in the second half the Pats game. Eventually, Addai may be as good as James was in Indy, but he isn't now.

That's all nice and well, but how is the team not better off? It is about winning games.

"The Edge" is not missed by Colts fans. He could never get tough yards, and he fumbled in crucial situations. Yeah, he's a complete back, and he rushed for a lot of yards in the Colts system-- but even Rhodes rushed for over 1,000 yards when Edgerrin was hurt that year. The Colts are better off with Joe Addai and Dominic Rhodes-- financially and on gameday.

Is James the only difference between this year's team and last? More importantly, is his absence the reason they are in the Super Bowl this year? Do you really think the current tandem is better at running, or blocking, or protecting the passer, than James?

The Colt's did not upgrade by losing James. They have coped with the loss and advanced farther in the playoffs. It is not because of the loss.

No, James isn't the only difference between this year's team and last. They also signed a kicker.

Yes, the current tandem at runningback is better at running than James. Blocking and protecting the passer pretty much go hand-in-hand. James was better at that, but Addai is almost there. Overall, this tandem is more productive than James-- especially when it comes to getting the tough yards and the big plays. Those were few and far between with Edge.

You stated they are not better off without him. That is definitely not a matter of fact. They have hardly just "coped" without him. I would take the combo of Addai/Rhodes over James. RB's can age quickly in the NFL, 25 carries a game plus pass blocking is a brutal existence. Add a knee injury to that and Edge is past his prime. So, Yes, they are better off without him.

413 car., 1,722 yds (4.2 avg), 12 TD
76 catches, 576 yds (7.6 avg), TD

Peyton Manning season sack total: 14

Edgerrin James- 2005 Totals With the Colts

360 car., 1,506 yds (4.2 avg), 13 TD
44 catches, 337 yds (7.7 avg), TD

Peyton Manning season sack total: 17

Oh, I forgot these numbers:

2006 Playoff Record: 3-0
2005 Playoff Record: 0-1

The total yardage is up with Addai and Rhodes. The sacks are down, so obviously the blocking has been better. Edge accounted for one more TD. I'll take one less TD and a Super Bowl win instead.

The ONE reason James had a down year was because he was running behind the worst OL group in history.

With Russ Grimm on staff, as well as a probable dedication to drafting OL, James SHOULD improve his stats in 2007, then surpass 1600 in 2008.

How's about you compare Addai/Rhodes 2006 to James/Rhodes 2005.

He doesn't have anywhere to go but up. Still, James will never be able to get tough yards or make big plays.

Adding Rhodes to 2005 gives you about 100 yards.

Yeah, 118 yards and 4 TDs rushing... as well as 88 yards receiving. It's beside the point.

It's all about getting the tough yards and making the big plays in big situations. James could never do that. Trust me, I watched nearly every game of his career with the Colts. Yeah, he always had good numbers, but what starting RB for the Colts hasn't? Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Dominic Rhodes (as a rookie), and now Joseph Addai.

Hang on, James played in 15 games rush for 1506 with a 4.2 carry.

Rhodes played in 13 games with 118 yards and 3.0 a carry.

2005 James/Rhodes:

400 carries, 1624 yards (4.06 ypc), 17 TD
57 rec., 425 yards (7.46 ypr), 1 TD

I wasn't asking to see it to be a jerk, I truly wanted to see it more accurately. More TDs from James/Rhodes, but more YPC from the new duo.
