Edward Snowden: American Hero

Only after he exposed treason on the part of government officials did this occur. And only after the U.S. turned their back on snowden.

Much like the definitions of what the different levels of classification for sensitive information, you seem to not really know the definition of this. What NSA was doing was wrong and illegal, but it wasn't treason in any sense of the word. I am 100% against what NSA was doing, but that doesn't absolve Snowden in the least bit.

You need to look up the definition of treason. While what the NSA was/is doing I consider illegal. It's not treason.

What Snowden has done is also illegal and very well may be treason. We just don't know yet.

Edit: Dam BC beat me to it.

he left before he exposed anything. he was already out, if anything he turned his back on the US, proved by the fact that he is working directly for the Russians right now. I am not going as far as VolProf saying he has always been a spy but going from our government to Russia's government screams pretty highly of treason to me.

I know this is hard for many of you. Fox News has convinced you that the only way to defend the constitution is to kill brown people for no apparent reason in middle eastern countries.

But there are other ways.

How people have actually "liked" or agreed with this post is pathetic, let alone that is was actually posted and was intended to be serious.

You don't feel like the NSA betrayed both the American people and the constitution?

It doesn't make it fine, but it makes it understandable. His options were to die or do what he did (or what he allegedly did).

No, those werent his only options. Maybe after the fact of releasing the information, but even then, his only options didnt include to die.

Math.

Go ahead then. Please give me the definition of treason?

The legal definition:
The betrayal of one's own country by waging war against it or by consciously or purposely acting to aid its enemies.

Now if you said Obama was guilty of treason by being the the head man in charge while NSA was doing their thing, then I could agree with it. But the US cant be guilty of treason.

Yes, but that's not what treason is. Not trying to insult you, but aren't you a teacher? What subject do you teach?

The word treason is rooted in the word treachery or to betray. By that definition this fits. The government betrayed both the constitution and the people.

The legal definition I have a problem with because it essentially leaves out the possibility of treason on behalf of the government against the people. Which is exactly what occurred here. They betrayed the people and the constitution. You could even agree that for the "waging war" and "aiding enemies" portions of the legal definition. Because the iinformation they collected was used to illegally convict US citizens of crimes.

I've said multiple times that we should be calling for the officials who authorized this to be put on trial for treason. I'm not saying the government as a whole, only those authorized these actions.

Perhaps Snowden saw what happened to Bradley Manning, and didn't want to spend the rest of his life in prison.

This is big government love at its worst. We find out the government is ****ing us, and then we allow them to use the media to manipulate us into blaming the man who pointed it out to us.

It's honestly one of the most frightening things I've seen in my 26 years.

The WPEA and the ICWPA.............pretty simple and no, you are not going to get sniped in the face when you click enter on the report.

You said after he released it he had other options.

But Even if he didn't get killed, do you truly believe the information would have been released?

Option 3?

work for legitimate businesses, either inside the US or outside of it. Of course who the frick wants to hire a guy that didn't keep government secrets and therefore can't be trusted with business secrets. (can do this outside the reach of the US)

write a book and make a freaking movie deal. (could do this outside the reach of the US)

actually stayed and tired to help clean up the mess, make the better world he wants. even though he said he specifically did not want to do that, which makes me question the heroics of it. (very much within reach, but then the government gets to make him the hero/champion of change that he called out)

he made 200,000 a year, hopefully he didn't spend it all, retirement or change of career. or gone and been a recluse living on 50 acres somewhere (in the US or outside of it)

just a few things he could have done.

Agree wholeheartedly, It's frightening.

Snowden and Manning are heroes in my view.

I dont know if you are just purposely arguing or if you actually believe this. Not a single person in this thread is absolving the USG or NSA of what they were doing and everyone seems to agree that they were doing illegal **** and should be held accountable.........................................BUT THAT DOESNT ABSOLVE SNOWDEN

just a few things he could have done.

1. He would have been arrested if he worked in the U.S. Or extradited and then arested depending on what country he went to.

2. Write a book in the U.S.? See part 1.

3. See part 1.

4. See part 1.

Seriously, how can you believe any of those to be viable options?

You said after he released it he had other options.

Yes, there are plenty of officials in high places that would love to have brought it to light.

After he released it, his option was to face the music and simply take the fine and/or possible prison time. Running to China/Russia/BFE, he only compounded the problem for himself. Look, I am glad that it came to light what the NSA was doing, but the way Snowden released the info, I firmly feel he should be punished accordingly.

thats a different conversation. IF he had done that and nothing got released, then going to the press would be more understandable. (more not understandable) NOTHING he does/did excuses going to work for a foreign nation.

So, what's going to happen to them? Is there a trial starting soon that I can tune into?

Many of you have called for snowdens head, meanwhile the real enemy still goes to work each day, still makes a couple hundred grand a year, and no one can even name him.

But we all know who Snowden is. Surely you can see the issue here? Where is the public outrage for the elected officials? It's not there.
