Edward Snowden: American Hero

What possible advantage could this government contractor for the NSA provide?

I would say lots of things. The intricacies or encryptions of spying devices, locations of hidden surveillance equipment, surveillance ship and sub locations, safe house locations, tactics, etc.

Spying devices would all be in the United States. Encryptions were all most likely changed as soon as he went public. And since this is the NSA all surveillance equipment should be in the United States only, and honestly it should all be removed.

Sub locations? Why would the NSA have subs? And safe houses for what?

I think you've read too many Tom Clancy books.

I can't believe you were in the military and are this naive.

What I'm hearing you say is:

It's unlikely anyone is actually harmed from any information he may have given away, and I can't say for a fact that he has given anything way to begin with. But I hate him for some reason. Mainly because the media tells me I should.

i hate him because he is working for the Russians, and i don't know any other word besides traitor for that. i can say for a fact that he has given stuff away, read the articles i linked, he is airing out a lot of intelligence stuff, and that is just what we hear about. and yes without knowing what he is actually giving away i can not give you specifics on how people might be hurt. just like you can't give me specifics on how the information won't hurt anyone.

what I hear from you: I love him so much because he pointed the governments wrong doings that I am willing to overlook everything else.

Do you have any proof of this?

Also, please enlighten me on how the USG has been so oppressive to whistleblowers since the whistleblower act

It's not something we can prove. It's just a rebuttal to the false asumption that the only reason they'd take him is if he gave them something.

I am talking appearances, not reality. Putin likes the egg on our face, no matter how we treat whistleblowers

or too busy not reading the "MSM" to hear about all (not that many actually) the NSA reports about helping find terrorists, and places to strike against ISIS.

doesn't forgive the spying but they have served a purpose.

you are saying that Russia has him working in their intelligence now just to make us look bad? you think they would let him anywhere close to that stuff if they didn't trust him completely?

Whether he is or isnt, he released sensitive information illegally......................I'm still baffled how you want to give him a pass when there were several avenues to go to bring this to light rather than the illegal way he chose. I dont know if he's working for Russia, China, Botswana, or the Nazi's, the bottom line is he violated his oath for dissemination of the information he was charged with and for that he cannot be absolved of wrongdoing. Does he need to be put to death...........if he hasnt helped the Russians or any other country, then no.

If a British operative told us they were spying on us and then he fled to S America, you would call him a coward?

It's all about perspective...............I couldn't possibly give any more damns about another country, when it rubs against my own. If Yuri from St. Petersburg fled to the US and had any sensitive information about Russia, I would consider him a hero.

K. So it's not the actions that make people heroic, it's about who they find themselves in conflict with.

If your sister was being held at gunpoint and an individual shot them in the face, you would consider that person a hero..................If you are the one holding the woman, you wouldnt consider them a hero. All about perspective.

read the articles i have linked. They are Russian sources, and an interview from the guy himself. saying and this is pretty much a direct quote. "I have to work much harder for the Russian intelligence than I ever did for the NSA." the only reason you don't know is because you are refusing to read the evidence in front you.

What are the consequences?

Depends on the severity of the information release, the intent of the individual who released it, and to whom it was released to. Many variables, but if its simple PPI and he released it to a news outlet and was just trying to expose NSA, then probably a fine and some prison time.

So you're saying the US is the bad guy holding a gun to a woman's head?

If I'm the bad guy the shooter is still a hero.

No, that's not what I said. If you took it that way, then we obviously have a disconnect or I'm not the best at posting examples of perspective.
