What should we as UT fans expect from a coach making $2 million per season?

I know some of you will say that Fulmer turned the program around this year with a 9-3 record, but : 1) Fulmer had to let the program hit bottom last year (5-6, losses to Vandy and South Carolina at home...which still blows my mind) before he made any changes on his coaching staff, and 2) UT lost to the three best teams on its schedule this year.

Fulmer is 70-29 since the NC in 98. Should we as UT fans continue to pay $2 million for a coach who will have 9-3/8-4 type seasons with no championships?

ugh... please mods, i beg of you. I'm against our coaching tactics too, but can you please make a sticky for one of the 6,708,489,325 threads about this and make the only one we can use to discuss this part of Tennessee football?

I wonder how many first (and last) posts are "get rid of Phil" posts.

I'd imagine a good 90% since I've been here.

If so many people are talking about it then seems like it's an issue. Beating a dead horse or not people talk non stop about this.

you could always move.

although we are UT fans here, we don't represent 1% of the rated capacity of Neyland Stadium. so even if we call for fulmer's head on a spit,we aren't going to get our way because we don't control the money, we don't make decisions at UT, and we most certainly do not have a chair at Mike Hamilton's breakfast table.

I've never understood this "we" business anyway. I'll admit that I say it too, but some people use the word as if they are part of the coaching squad, the team, and that athletic department.

"small mike" comes to mind.

Once the bowl season ends I imagine that another Fulmer "off-topic depository" thread will be started and the moderators will steer all CPF discussion that calls for a new coach into said depository while allowing inane, boot-licking, pro-Fulmer posts ad infinitum.

And while we are on the subject...the other day I noticed a #3 sticker in the rear window of a pick-up truck and it struck me that the Fulmerites are much like those who proudly support the dead Earnhart with their #3s...living in the land of memories and past glories that will not be repeated in this lifetime.

amen, people call it a dead horse, but what else are we supposed to talk about? Somebody explain to me why I am supposed to sit here and accept a mediocre football program in silence.

Exactly Rexvol.

It's not a shock that I got blasted by the Fulmer homers. I guess the facts are hard to deal with for them.

Bottom line: If you want to pay $2 million/year for 8-4/9-3 football and no championships, then Fulmer is your guy. His record and history backs up that statement....and I'd like for anyone to challenge that statement.

your new here justvol and welcome to the board. my point is not that fulmer is our answer, if you go back and read my posts, you will find i see him on the chopping block. i also see chavis on there. my point is that we have 4 of these threads for every one thread we have of something else. it should be noted you waited for someone to agree w/ you before you even made your second post.

because you just posted this same comment in another thread

agree to disagree:peace2: with you Bill, I see the state of our program as being worthy of as many threads as people see fit to begin, you do not, My question for you is what else are we supposed to talk about here?

Here we go again.

:horse:

:good!: Exactly.

Not that this topic doesn't warrant discussion, but the number of threads are just out of control. Even if a thread doesn't start out concerning the Fire Phil/Keep Phil discussion, it alot of times eventually gets there.

I would definitely agree that there should be a sticky dedicated to this part of Tennessee football or even a sub-forum where you could talk about any of the coaches at UT.

the threads eventually get there because when you break it all down the head coach is responsible for ALL aspects of the program

This has absolutely ZERO to do with what your opinion is of our coaching. This has EVERYTHING to do with us attempting (in vain sometimes) to keep the board somewhat organized and readable.

I don't see what's so hard about this. We don't care whether you are pro or con . . . just don't turn every thread into the same argument.

Completely unfair. Completely wrong. Completely what I would expect.

there's plenty to talk about. I think this is definitely a topic worthy of discussion. I also think the BCS process and our bowl selection very worthy of talk. Meachem's possible departure, Smith's slim chance of a 5th year, although i think since he came through the T Saturday, it must be a closed case, Shula being fired, the fact that Pearl forgot to bring his players to NYC, the SEC vs every other conference in football.. all very worthy topics. I'm just tired of seeing every other thread about this which is why i'd like a sticky for it and we can just use it as the end all discussion. i'd still be a regular contributor to it.
