Also consider that in 2 of those seasons, Florida had a better conference record but was on probation. The other season was a co-championship.
IMO it's hard to compare SEC titles pre-1992 to SEC titles post-1992. Pre-1992 there was no Championship game and a just a few years before that, everyone only played 6 conference games and it was also possible for there to be co-champions.
All the SEC champ game has done is eliminate SEC teams from BCS bowls or the NC game.
Without the SECCG this season, Florida would be totally out of National Championship contention. Their only hope (a very very slim hope at that) of going to the NC game is a blowout victory over Arkansas in the SECCG and a USC loss to UCLA this weekend.I'm completely ready to go back to that. At least 3 SEC teams deserve a BCS bid this year, but the loser in this years champ game probably won't get one.

best case scenario for UF is to finish 13-1 and cause some more controversy

Only two SEC teams can go to BCS bowls in the same season anyway, so how does this hurt the conference?
I agree. My point was not really to compare, even though I did. I just get tired of these people who refer back to "the Majors years" like he left the program in dire straits or something, when in fact it was at pretty much the same level it is at today. But I think it's fair to say that CPF elevated the general stature of the program beyond what CJM had done to that point.
In 1985 we had an equal record to Florida and would have finished as co-champions, although they would have gotten the Sugar Bowl bid had they not been on probation since they beat us. 89 was a three way co championship with Auburn and Bama. Florida had a 6-1 SEC record in 90 to our 5-1-1, but their one loss was 45-3 in Knoxville. The fact of the matter is that UF was on probation, we won the championship. Do you not feel that they were deserved? Also consider that in 2 of those seasons, Florida had a better conference record but was on probation. The other season was a co-championship.
