Eight years and no titles...

IF the mods moved all the anti posts into one thread, or seperated the "coaching discussions" into their own board, there would be maybe 10 whiners and complainers in those threads, on those boards, and "discussion" in those sections would slow to a screeching halt.

It's not at all surprising to me that none of the NegaVols participate in the VN Football Top 25. I doubt they participate in the basketball Top 25 either.

But they looooove Tennessee. They are the biggest, brightest fans. Don't ever tell them any different or they will complain some more.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The "NegaVols" are fans that have a disconnect with the University. Either in geographic location or in the fact that they grew up the fan of some other team, in some other sport and for whatever reason began liking Tennessee. They aren't quite as involved as some of the fans that we here call "Fulmerites".

Now, so that I am clear, there isn't anything wrong with that. They are allowed to be whatever kind of fan they want to be and there is nothing wrong with liking some other team in other sports. It's just not something I do. Which makes me and them different from each other.

One comment....... If you move every topic or post which can viewed as anti-fulmer or challenges the coaching staff or coaching decisions to one thread.... then I respectfully request that all pro-fulmer or pro-coaching staff topics or posts be moved to one thread also. That is substantial fairness!!!!!!!!!!!

i whole heartedly agree. I want all that into one thread, one stickied thread. just like has been done w/ the meachem threads and to some degree the bowl scenarios. let me point out though, i think the mods here do a fantastic job. i'm not complaining to you guys at all. just making a request.

I think that's very reasonable.

But I don't think it's really even a matter of all the Pros in one thread and all the cons in another. We treat it like most everything else. If it's the same as another topic that already exists - it gets merged no matter what the topic is.

I don't think Fulmer needs to be fired after a 9-3 season. With a Bowl win that would be 10-3.

Not the championship everyone wants, but is it enough to replace the head coach? I don't think so.

Realisticly, you expect to fire a coach after going 10-3?

Brace for the "Oh, I see you are happy with 3 losses and not winning any championships and playing in a lesser bowl" response.

I expect a coach who makes over 2 million dollrs to win SEC championships.... Fulmer has 2 more years to win one or the Vols will not have had one in ten years..... Not saying he should lose his job though at this point. And I do not see the Vols winning the SEC next season.

Maybe; maybe not. But the SEC schedule definitely improves next year.

Also, you have Florida breaking in a new QB, and you never know how that will end up. Georgia, I expect to be better, but not that much better. I don't think there is a clear cut leader for the east next year.

I've criticized Fulmer as much as anyone, but I think he has the makings of a pretty good coaching staff now.

I don't like the message you send a prospective new coach, if you fire your current coach after a 9-3 season.

Bama has had 4 coaches in 7 years. Thats more coaches then UT has had in 50 years. UT doesn't run that kind of program.

welcome to my argument. I base my argument on theory that any coach/team that wins a national title gets a ten year grace period. i know that is going to get something started though

Comment.

USC has won 2 National titles and played for a third in this decade. They may end up playing Ohio State for a fourth. And fulmerites blast those who are critical of his coaching.

2) UT lost to the three best teams on its schedule this year.

Its easy to say that, but in reality, each team's win over Tennessee helped them to become top 10 teams. Colley's computer ranking has a neat function where you can input a different output for a game. Had California beaten the Vols this season, they would be ranked 5th.

Likewise, had the Vols beaten LSU, the Tigers would be 14th instead of 6th. Arkansas drops to 19th.

However, Florida only drops from 3rd to 5th.

Reversing any one of those 3 losses results in the Vols being ranked 6th.

Reversing other games (one at a time) results in:
California 5th
Georgia 19th
South Carolina 22nd
Kentucky 26th

And while we are on the subject...the other day I noticed a #3 sticker in the rear window of a pick-up truck and it struck me that the Fulmerites are much like those who proudly support the dead Earnhart with their #3s...living in the land of memories and past glories that will not be repeated in this lifetime.
Ouch. I've been pegged!

I am with Patrick on this one. Medicore is about what this year has been and about where our program has been sicne 2001. I give CPF and cast one more year to get this thing going again. This will be the Jr. year of his "top 5" recruiting class and he has a good QB coming back next season. If this coaching staff can develop talent show it. You will have a bowl game and the extra practice to work with them and the spring. We are basically a mid tear team in the SEC now. Can they improve and make it back to the top? It is all up to coaching IMO and if he has lost touch or whatever-then a change is needed. But, He does have some time to prove he can return to the winning ways and I wish him the best. I would like to see him go out with at least a SECC but the clock is ticking, along with the patience of one of THE BEST fan bases in the nation.

What should we as UT fans expect from a coach making $2 million per season?

I know some of you will say that Fulmer turned the program around this year with a 9-3 record, but : 1) Fulmer had to let the program hit bottom last year (5-6, losses to Vandy and South Carolina at home...which still blows my mind) before he made any changes on his coaching staff, and 2) UT lost to the three best teams on its schedule this year.

Fulmer is 70-29 since the NC in 98. Should we as UT fans continue to pay $2 million for a coach who will have 9-3/8-4 type seasons with no championships?

There is plenty of debate about Fulmer, but little actionable solutions given here. Just a lot of moaning.

If you are a contributor to the program, or otherwise kick in for any of Phil's salary, then either stop the donation/contribution or make sure it has an attached note that says it can not be used for any coaches salry directly or indirectly. If you don't contribute, then you have no gripe about the salary.

If there are thousands of requests that donations not make their way to Phil, then Mike will have problem on his hands. I personally believe that there are very few contributors that are calling for a coaching change. So good luck with all the complaining.

What kind of season would have justifed keeping Fulmer?

10-2?; 11-1?

Two games were lost in the final 3 minutes, they were very competitive.
