Election Night (or days, or weeks, or whatever) 2022

DISGUSTING, but I can tell you why. They gerrymandered the **** out of Ohio. I had the same polling spot for 20 years. Right across the street. No problems. Since 2020, and the cult of frumpism infected the minds of half the state, I have been moved 3 times. Yesterday I stood in a long line for 1 machine. Yeah, we had 1 machine. You already know which way I voted. They still have TRUMP flags flying in rural places. Many took them down in embarrassment, but not all. Half the adults in Ohio didn't bother to vote. Pathetic. Their minds have been fried. Ohio Youth is coming up strong tho. I got hope.

Gotta admit the Ohio legislature is pretty darn slick the way they so adroitly gerrymandered a senate seat.

DeSantis is the main gop guy, don't see Trump running. Florida set the standard for the gop.
I hope desantis runs because I think Florida -- much like the infamous "Florida man" from news headlines -- is a sui generis thing that no one really understands and is generally not seen elsewhere. Not sure desantis translates nationally.

Wow. That is some quality spin doctoring.

By the standards of the party not in power during the mid-terms, going back to 1994, the Republicans have underperformed.

They will take control of the House, but they had modest gains tonight. Republicans plus 13 is being optimistic at this point. Newt Gingrich was on Fox News Monday night and predicted the Republicans would pick up 44 seats.
Where did we lose serve? Take the house, looking that way and was expected... take the senate, 50/50 considering it was not in the cards a few months back. So again, where did they lose serve?

The more concerning side for the left was those 2020 hopes of bigger states going purple shifted back to deep red again.

I wish I felt good about Trump fading away. I don't believe that his ego will allow it.
His ego won’t but his pocket book might. Clear take away here is those coat tails aren’t what they used to be and I don’t see any resurgence coming. No interest = no money funneled to feed his ego and he’s gotta spend his own money then. He won’t be playing with house money any longer.

And on that same note, we get to hear this next exchange as a result of those coat tails.

“Would the Senator from PA like to offer an opinion?”

“It ain’t got no gas in it”

What he did for the state was way better than what that communist did for California.

So you think the GOP estabishment candidates would have been better instead of Trump populists? I don't think this means there is a hunger for more Mitch McConnell/Mitt Romney types.

The Rs need to find that happy medium between the Trump and McConnell wings. Neither can carry a national election anymore and both need to be put out to pasture.

Trump's argument will be that he should have announced his candidacy a week earlier. If he had, the red wave would have been yuge.

I actually think Trump put off an announcement to see the mid-term results. Had there been a red wave I'm sure he would be announcing his candidacy. Now I'm hoping he sees the writing on the wall.

The most shocking winner to me is Whitmire. I can't believe the people of MI gave her another term after what she did to them during 2020-21. She will be emboldened to take even more drastic measures when the next "crisis" hits.

It was a blue wave in that state. State houses in Mich were also taken over by the Dems. Abortion helped them. Republicans need to get back to their Barry Goldwater roots on abortion. Keep gov't out of this or at least soften the stance. These abortion bans are hurting Republicans politically. This will go like gay marriage did for the party. The will of the country will prevail and the overwhelming majority of the country wants there to be a reasonable window for abortions to be legal

Or they could run actual conservatives interested in small govt. Anyone know where to find those anymore?

In 2 more years abortion will not be the lightning rod it is now, people will have had enough economic pain by then.

We are raising idiots.

I have a recent grad with a BS in business from UT, working for me. I overheard her speaking with someone and she did not know what a republican or democrat was or what either would stand for in even the most general sense. But get out the vote.

It is a no-brainer. Trump didn't get a red wave to gloat about. Desantis won blue counties in a rout.
This should be a message that it's time for the party to move beyond Trump and go towards DeSantis. Trump backed candidates that Republicans nominated in the primaries hurt the party in the general. I'm not surprised

Is anyone really sure anymore?

If more states put abortion measures on the ballot it'll stay a hot issue. You can bet Democrats know this and will do exactly that
