Electric Vehicles

So, as it turns out, there is a lot of false info circulating about this Hertz deal. For example: there are no Model S cars being offered. The long range 3s are in the neighborhood of $30k, and that's with 50,000+ miles on them. Comparatively, here is what you can get a brand new 3LR for in this area:

The base 3 now starts around $37 new.

If I'm in the market, I would go new for $10k more all day long.

I've got a neighbor with a Plaid. It's scary fast off the line.

Had more than a few issues with EV's catching fire in garages after the hurricane Ian floods we had in 2022- burning down houses. Who knew that lithium batterie and salt water don't play well together?

You chose your car, I'll chose mine! Race you to the beach! 🤣

My '23 F150 Platinum has an extended range gas tank in addition to the batteries. I can race you to the beach 670 miles away and never have to stop for gas. About 5.5 seconds 0-60 and I can power my house with a 7kw generator. Because of the EV battery tech, I'm probably getting just as good or better mpg than you.

So that was sarcasm right? I think so but just making sure.

I like my two Lexus cars. Had one for 15 years and the other for 10. Never any trouble with either, so you keep your EV and I'll keep my vehicles. ;)

My wife drives a Lexus rx 350, the only advantage that thing has over my pickup is that it's easier to park. It was like a knife fight in a phone booth at Costco yesterday. My truck has the turning radius of a Nimitz class carrier.

Did you say something? I didn't hear you, let me come down and get closer.

Sounds like your wife is smarter than you ;) 🤣

Good thing Costco has those double lines so everybody knows where to center their vehicles.

Tesla Cybertruck manual advises owners to ‘Immediately Remove’ bird poop, dead bugs from vehicle

The the manual for Tesla’s newly unveiled Cybertruck advises that owners to remove bird poop, tree sap and dead insects from the futuristic vehicle in order to prevent damage to its stainless steel body.

“To prevent damage to the exterior, immediately remove corrosive substances (such as grease, oil, bird droppings, tree resin, dead insects, tar spots, road salt, industrial fallout, etc.),” the owner’s manual of the new Cybertruck reads:

The manual also urges Cybertruck owners not to wait for a complete wash.

“If necessary, use denatured alcohol to remove tar spots and stubborn grease stains, then immediately wash the area with water and a mild, non-detergent soap to remove the alcohol,” the manual states.

Apple to Launch Its Own EV in 2028 after SCRAPPING plans to create a fully self-driving car. Insiders say new scaled back design is a 'Tesla Me Too'

Apple is planning to launch its own electric car as early as 2028, according to new reports.

The tech giant had originally intended to create a fully self-driving vehicle as part of a decade-old project dubbed internally as Titan.

But today sources told Bloomberg that the company is working on an EV with more limited features which make it more similar to the current Tesla models available on the market.

The outlet reported the model will launch in 2028 - two years after it was expected to.

Customers Discover 'fatal' design flaw in Tesla's $80,000 Cybertruck that could lead to Passengers' Fingers Being CHOPPED OFF - and it's been named the 'guillotine effect'

New owners of Tesla's sleek, stainless-steel Cybertruck may want to watch their fingers closing the electric vehicles doors and its front-facing trunk.

Reviewers have conducted a now viral 'carrot test,' and other experiments with hot dogs, bananas, and other food to simulate what would happen to passengers' hands and fingers — discovering a gruesome 'guillotine effect' in the process.

The $80,000 truck - which has been plagued by manufacturing issues - does not feature anti-pinch sensors like Tesla's own Model X and rival electric trucks like Ford's F-150 Lightning.

'I'm just going to shut the door like a normal person shuts the door. Nothing too hard,' one reviewer said just before gently showing the Cybertruck's driver's side door chop the ends off two large, hearty carrots.

Holy crap, better steer clear of cybertruck. No other vehicle will hurt you if you stick your hand in front of the closing door...

Manchin Renews Attacks On Biden EV Plan: ‘Spits in the face of rural America’

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) launched another attack against President Joe Biden, saying his electric vehicle tax credit plan “spits in the face of rural America.”

In a blistering statement, Manchin accused the Biden administration of “ignoring the law in pursuit of its radical climate agenda.”

“The Administration just will not stop ignoring the law in pursuit of its radical climate agenda — no matter the cost,” Manchin said. “This proposed guidance completely spits in the face of rural America with a brand-new interpretation that makes close to the entire country eligible for a credit that was designed to help drive investment in fueling infrastructure for electric, hydrogen, or natural-gas powered vehicles in rural and low-income areas where private businesses can’t or won’t invest.”

Manchin’s comments come after the Biden administration announced millions in new federal funds aimed at lowering electric vehicle costs for consumers. The expansion of the tax credit will provide up to 30% of charger costs to people and businesses living in low-income or urban areas, which officials said will make it more affordable to install EV charging infrastructure and increase access to charging for drivers living in areas with limited access to chargers.

I typically get 50,000 to 60,000 miles out of my tires on my beloved gas guzzler.

At EV Garage Miami, a Sweetwater repair shop that services 90 percent electric vehicles, lead technician Jonathan Sanchez said tires are the most frequent thing customers come in about — no matter what model or make of EV they’re driving. Tire mileage can vary widely of course, but he said he frequently changes EV tires at just 8,000 to 10,000 miles — a fourth or even fifth of typical tire wear on a gas-burning car.

Look at this overreaching BS here
Remind me again of what interlock or governor that can't be bypassed? Can you imaging the infrastructure that'll need to be installed so that your car will know the speed limit for the road you are on? If it's optical, how much fun will it be to add a "1" in front of all the speed limit signs.
