Embarrassing

Funny, Some will give up and join in but others will stay negative until it's proved on the field. I'm in but want to see yearly progression. No status quo this time. I want it next year and I think we will see it.

hey involuntary is there an og thread anywhere or somewhere to hang out

I have no idea. I wish there was a thread for folks that wanted and expected more than was presented today. I am not a BJ hater but honestly can't even comprehend how far the football program has fallen. Don't get me wrong but this search has proven to me that Hart is either way over his head or doesn't really care. I am really concerned about the future of Tennessee football. JMO

Although a lurker for a while, this is my first post here.

I experienced along side all of you, the wish for the miraculous hire.... whoever it was.

However, the comments of some of the "fans" pretty much left me disgusted.

The folks that dare insult a man just because he took a job are pathetic losers. Period.

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. If you don't like this hire to the point of not wanting to support the team anymore, good riddance. I would love to personally put the University of Alabama bumper sticker on your car.

Also, if you were personally butt-hurt by the hiring of CBJ, you really need to get a mental evaluation. I am a huge UT fan, but I would never let it affect me the way it has affected some of you.

By the way, most of the folks I am talking about couldn't successfully coach a fish to a victory at a swimming tournament... and yet they (and their 67 average IQ) are now qualified as experts to advise a major university with a multi-million dollar budget on leadership. I can imagine most of these folks can't lead themselves off of their 1972 worn out couch in their trailer.

The bottom line is that it is football. If you let it have this much control over your life, you are a dolt. Plain and simple. Go eat Cheetos and drink cheap beer.

AMEN.....preach it!!!

When the going gets rough some people pick up the pieces, move forward and strive to overcome....some just ***** and complain!

Pacer, I like it when you post because it reminds me that you bought tickets for that poster that wanted to take his son to the NC State game. You're a class act, bro.

Agreed... Personally, I think they should $hitcan the whole Volnation site since it's become a safe harbor for NegaVols and a source of nearly nothing but false and misleading information... I find most of the posters on here are nothing but rabble rousers and trouble makers... We have one of the most ignorant fanbases in all all of college football (spellcheck anyone?) All that being said, I feel very good about CBJ... I'm officially looking forward to 2013... GBO!

u can take a decent recruit 3 star or lower..and coach him right and coach were he can be a great player.

Yes you can but only a few of those you can. And all take time to do that if you even can. And time is not what Tennessee has right now was my point.

I'm just hoping any recruits don't take some of these Hart Haters and Jones Bashers seriously and represent the majority....they're nothing more than disgruntled Grudentrons.

Not by the hire, but with the way many Vol fans are handling it. Anyone belittling Jones via message boards, twitter, facebook, etc. should be ashamed of themselves. If not, I'm ashamed for you. I'm sure most of your parents raised you better than to throw temper tantrums because you're unhappy with an athletics hire.

If you fall into the category above, grow up. Watching Grudenmania take place over here was embarrassing enough, but you're one upping yourselves. I'm sure you don't realize how silly you look.

You don't have to like the hire, but don't belittle the man. The same goes for Hart. He's not there to serve your every whim or to chase around your fantasies.

If you don't want to follow the Vols anymore, that's your choice. Deny your support financially. It would also be nice if you would choose to stay away from here, too.

Agreed, and awesome avatar. "It's me, Dr. Rosenpenis." Classic film!

I'm not a fan of the hire, but i have no ill will towards CBJ. He was offered the job and accepted. He obviously wants to be here and I appreciate that! But I am pissed as hell at this keystone cop version of a coaching search! CBJ is now my coach and I am fully behind him, but no one will EVER convince me to change my opinion of the process! Anyone bashing CBJ just because they are butt hurt over not getting who they wanted IMO is pathetic! The man is proud to be here. Let's show him the same respect!

That was very well said and eloquently put. You took a truly diplomatic approach to this whole thing, I have to say.

I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by what Jones brings to UT. He's going to reinstall that winning culture that was so pervasive here for decades until Kiffin came along and destroyed the program in one year. Yeah, he may run a spread offense, albeit one where in Cincinnati, they liked to throw the football around a lot as well as run jet sweeps, but that's the sign of the times. Things are changing at Tennessee, but one thing will remain the same: its winning attitude. I think you'll also be especially happy by what Jones is able to accomplish in the classroom. In 2011, the same year that Cincinnati won its first conference title under Jones, they won an award that frankly, I would be more proud of that any athletic honor one can bestow upon me: that is, U of C won the Big East's team academic award. When did Tennessee ever care about academics under Johnny Majors, Phil Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, and Derek Dooley? In fact, I think it was this year where UT football's graduation rates ranked 13th out of 14 teams in the SEC. Not only is Butch Jones going bring back UT's winning ways, he's going to totally revamp the academic culture of the football program. In essence, Tennessee is going to be an institution whereby its students and fans can be proud of the football players for not only being excellent on the gridiron, but also by excelling in the classroom.

i agree but this piss poor search gave a good man, a good coach an opprotunity to prove his self...like he said in the PC everything happens for a reason

too many gone full retard and drank the grudaid

While I agree that people were too eager to believe the whole situation with Gruden when it couldn't have been more abundantly clear that the situation was too good to be true, I don't appreciate reading the use of "retard" in your post. My sister is autistic and therefore is mentally retarded as part of her disability. I've grown up around special needs kids and individuals all my life, having volunteered my summer months as a teenager to working with kids with disabilities, and of course, my sister has been a part of my life now for 28 out of 31 years I've been alive, so no, I don't appreciate reading that word being used in any other way than to describe a person's true disability.

Sorry, I'm off my rant now.

I guess we will see. I am willing to reserve judgment until I see the product on the field. I sincerely hope he becomes the greatest coach in our history! As for the AD, well that's a whole other story! I'm close to joining the Fulmer for AD crowd.

I have to say, rockytop_14, that I think it was a terrible mistake in hindsight for Mike Hamilton to have ever fired Phil Fulmer. We can talk about this all day, but the facts are these: in both 2005 and 2008, we struggled to field offenses capable of sustaining any form of passing attack because our quarterbacks underachieved. In 2005, I believe it was Erik Ainge and later on, Rick Clausen, who struggled completing passes in a pro-style offense. Had that not happened, I honestly think that Tennessee would have won the SEC Championship that year and would have gone on to play West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl. Fast-forward to 2008, and I think you'll see an example much like what happened in 2005. Jonathan Crompton was awful, and his backup (can't remember his name) was even worse. In an offense that is so predicated and reliant on the forward pass being successful, if your quarterback struggles to complete passes, you're in big trouble. Fulmer was a victim of bad luck more than anything else. I don't know what his recruiting class would have been like had Cutcliffe stayed at UT as offensive coordinator rather than move onto Duke, but I dare say that because of the change in offensive coordinators, the recruiting struggled and Crompton, who was never a very good quarterback to begin with, had to learn a totally new offensive system in which its traits were based on short to intermediate passes rather than passing vertically down field.

I know this is not a very popular opinion shared by many on this message board, but I think if you look at the circumstances surrounding the losing seasons under Fulmer, you'll see a pattern of what really went on, which, of course, revolved around the quarterback position.
