Eric MacLain Decommits

It seems like alot of these players say that they have UT high on their lists but then each and every one of them says "but I havent heard from the new staff so I dunno?" Whats the deal??

I don't know if this staff will be a good game prep staff(I think they will), but I'm damn sure they can recruit. The avg poster here has 0 inside knowledge on how these guys go about recruiting, so why on earth spend the time questioning their methods or what they are doing? You've got the TWO time recruiting coach of the year over there and a head coach that coordinated a couple no. 1 classes. Not to mention they pulled a freaking miracle on signing day. I'm gonna trust them on this one right now.

Ok for real.... why is there a Black Dot on my Avatar spot ? I've been ignoring it, but i know Men should never ignore dark spots no matter where it is located.......

If you stare at it long enough, it starts to move.

espnu 150 watch list tight end eric maclain backs off volunteers

eric maclain, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end prospect from jack britt (fayetteville, n.c.), has withdrawn his class of 2011 commitment to tennessee.

Maclain, who chose the vols as a sophomore, has offers from clemson, duke, maryland, north carolina, north carolina state, virginia tech and west virginia. Notre dame has also shown interest.

He decommited? Look for him to get a 4th or 5th star anyday now. That's how it typically works..... :mega_shok:

This one is completely on Dooley and his staff. Complete laziness on the recruiting trail.

"I have decided to de-commit," said Eric MacLain. "I don't understand why they have not tried to contact me. It's been really upsetting.

"We were looking on Scout.com, and we were looking on the UT site. Coach Dooley had offered scholarships and were talking to players at their high school. He does that, but doesn't contact players who are committed.
"It was really confusing to me. I want them to recruit me. The distrust that is there would be really hard to go that way now.

This is a knee jerk reaction if I have ever seen one. Dooley has been here less than a month, trying to get his administrative staff straight, trying to get his policies in place, and some 17-18 year old kid thinks that a HC is ignoring him?? Man, I really hope that Eric isn't really like this, I have high expectations for this kid, but he has to understand that when you get paid 2 million dollars a year and have only been on the job 1 month, then you have bigger fish to fry really. Also, if I am not mistaken, the coaches can't call ANYONE right now, so I am not sure why this is a big deal.

I respectively disagree, tell that to our Jr recruits. This is a big deal because DD cannot hold on to any recruit from the previous staff. We were fortunate to have 8 EEs that Kiffin gave us. Now the rubber meets the road and the silence that DD has self imposed is becoming deafening.
He has chosen to not do interviews until spring practice which I believe is a HUGE mistake.

Dooley has better things to do than kiss the media's *****. He got here a little bit over 3 weeks ago. Let Dooley settle and start his Journey into 2011 recruiting.

Huh?

Anyway, this is a clear case of Dooley not liking a guy that was committed to another staff. Period. You don't just not contact a prospect that you want to be a part of your class. Doesn't happen.

All you Dooley-haters in here that are trying to spin this as, I don't really know what, but somehow trying to bash Dooley are not thinking this through.

You should be looking at this from a positive standpoint. Dooley obviously knows what he wants in a player and he doesn't see it in Maclain from a tackle standpoint. The kid was never going to be a TE here. He's not settling which some of you have predicted was going to happen with this staff.

We will have PLENTY of OL in this class so don't worry about one guy that the coaches decided not to call anymore.

very good perspective(sp) Sab. is this an indication that Dooley may want to recruit giants on the O line, as opposed to smaller athletic kids?

I have no problem with this. As Sab say DD may not have this player as one that will fit into his scheme. Look everyone was praising DD a few weeks ago. Don't now throw him under the bus. Have trust in someone that has much more integrity than the coach he is replacing.

I agree with the guy. He is our only commit to this point and the staff should have recognized that. Even if the DD cant call the player he can call his coach and talk about eric. Seems like someone dropped the ball on this one.

17 out of 25 players (68%) chose UT even though they weren't tied in...so they either liked the school or the new coach...

And let's discuss the 8 EE's as if they weren't locked in and could have left....

IMO...Simms, Milton, Smith, Fugate were locks...Bray, James, Miller might have looked around but probably wouldn't have once a coach was named...which leaves Meline and who knows with him...

This idea that Dooley deserves some kind of asterik next to this signing class because of the EE's is ridiculous...the majority of this class committed because of the school

And I agree with Sab...Dooley could have contacted MacClain in one form or another (through indirect means) if he wanted...he has clearly decided he doesn't want to go in that direction...and since he is the coach and I'm not that's enough for me...

Those of you going nuts because this coach is choosing to focus on his highest priorities instead of giving us a daily soundbite need to get over it...Dooley is not Kiffin...that is clearly not how he operates

Ummm.. I go to the HOME page. Where I can read ALL new threads, not just recruiting. Any further questions?

Why would you take the time to make multiple posts in the recruiting forum if you don't care about it and bash a thread that is obviously relevant to the topic?

found this page, maybe this has something to do with it.
sorry is someone else posted it already

Maybe the staff told him they were going to take someone else instead of him because he said himself that was the only way he was going to decommit.

Holding 23 offers already, a Washington state product received his second official offer from the University of Tennessee today. Austin Seferian-Jenkins had received an official offer from the previous Tennessee Coaching staff but was uncertain where he stood with Derek Dooley and his new staff. It appears the new coaching staff has offered as well
