Eric MacLain Decommits

I'm gonna turn in Nick Saban right here. This is proof of multiple calls to a recruit during a dead period.

I don't care if he called his coach or the recruit, I don't need to know the rules to turn someone in. I like the fact that he is cheating and we'll still get him.

Completely acceptable...he already got one recruit during the "dead period" by this method...

And for everyone saying we will get him back...long time til NSD... ??? We had him... there would be no need to "get him back" if a simple phone call was made... Im not bashing Dooley btw... Sab hit it on the head...CDD evidently doesn't want the kid in Orange...

That was all very obviously a knock off of everything that was wrong with Lane Kiffin.

I got the sarcasm..lol... I was just making the point that contact is being made by coaches...

yeah, ironically, I like that we contacted that stud TE recruit recently.

The staff is obviously working hard recruiting. Just not recruiting this guy, for whatever reason.

The people defending DD on this need to get a grip. Yes, they may not like him as much as some other guys. And yes, I know it is common practice to just go silent on a guy rather than tell him like a man. But this isn't just some kid, this is a young man who has been committed forever and clearly bleeds orange. He deserved a phone call from the head coach explaining the situation. There's no argument that can be made to counter that. This was a dick move by our new head coach, period.

Been some rumblings on tos that the Maclain camp are thinking TE at the collegiate level...if thats the case than I understand not contacting the kid...

Recruiting is a non stop 365 days a year job if you want to stay on top. Im not sure what the deal is with this kid but he is not the only one that has publicly stated that he hasnt heard from the staff. Im sure they know what they are doing. Its just bad pub when alot of top prospects publicly say they havent even heard from the staff. It is definitley going to take a while to get used to not getting three or four stories a day in the media out of this staff... We have been spoiled in that regard. I liked reading something new about my team everyday. Lets me get my mind off hectic things every now and again. Go Vols!

What the hell are you talking about? Do you really think the coaching staff is neglecting potential recruits? In February? Honestly?

The coaching staff is not here to entertain you with the latest travails in the fascinating world of recruiting. This MacClain kid and/or the people giving him advice are fools and that is quite an understatement. It is obvious Dooley & the rest of the staff does not want this kid. Honest question: have you ever seen Derek Dooley? Or noticed how he goes about things? Like any single thing at all? Do you really think he just neglected contacting this kid?

Why would you take the time to make multiple posts in the recruiting forum if you don't care about it and bash a thread that is obviously relevant to the topic?

Let me guess your age. 15? My last post regarding anything about recruiting before I said something here, was on FEB 3. Know what day that was? Quit trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Feb 2011 is a LONG way away. What he says right now and does doesn't mean JACK SQUAT!

If this kid does not have skills then it is very likely CLK and staff would have "encouraged him to look elsewhere" after they got the '11 rolling.

FTR, the overreactions here are based long on assumptions and very, very short on facts.

If USC doesn't offer him, that's an indication that you may be right.

Just read he weigh's 270...sounds like a good chance for a big ugly to step in here...He'll be back just getting attention where attention is due.

They'll still spin it no matter how obvious of a screw job it was.... I agree 100%

Nothing to spin. No one pulled the kid's offer. No one told him to look elsewhere. As far as anyone knows, they had no idea he would freak out because they didn't contact him in the two weeks following NSD.

The real issue with the kid seems to be that he didn't like UT offering another TE... a player that might be one of the best players in the country. But I guess you experts "know" it was a "screw job".

his coach talked to baggett within the last two weeks. The coach said so on the radio today. Baggett told him that they would honor the scholarship offer and they were evaluating where the kid fit in the program and they were looking forward to seeing him.

The kid wants to play te. He's going to be a tackle in college. 4.9 40, 270 as a junior. I didn't make this up, hubbs said it on the radio tonight. The coaches are trying to figure where he fits.

Where is the "screw job" here? Maybe as an 17 yr old kid, you get all worked up because someone didn't call you, but where are the adults in this situation? You love ut so much, then let them work on getting things rolling and talk to them when you come to junior day. Or if the kid is really wound up, then call and tell the coaches that your son in concerned and needs to talk.

You can make up facts, imagine facts or run around screaming like a little girl, but under the above scenario, there is no screw job, just an over anxious kid, without proper guidance.

I am glad I do not work for some of you guys with your unrealistic expectations. I would get fired on the first day because I failed to part the Red Sea. The poor guy has been working his ass off since the second he was announced coach. He saved our recruiting class, and has assembled a nice staff to lead us into the future. Is he not allowed to find a home, and move his family? Meet his current players which he asked to be patient while he and the staff recruited? Perhaps he needs to meet with his staff to determine roles and responsibilities, and appraise them of recruiting responsibilities. Anyone with a brain, or knows anything about leading, knows you have to have a plan and buy in before you can execute.

I can't believe the number of you that are just not getting this. Going without contacting a commitment DOES NOT HAPPEN if you intend to keep that commitment. NO staff does that. Not the best recruiting staffs and not the worst. NO ONE. This is recruiting 101, guys. This is not a guy we intended to be a part of this recruiting class.

The reason Maclain is de-committing is because he has seen the writing on the wall. Nothing more. Nothing less. Let him go wherever he wants to go. We will still fill our class with talented O-lineman that fit the schemes that we are going to run.

All of you trying to blame anything on Dooley are completely out of your skulls. I haven't made my mind up about the guy either, but trying to spin this into something it clearly isn't just shows your lack of brain power.

DD should be able to get his own players in. I completely understand him wanting to put his stamp on the program.

imo MacLain is overreacting. Baggett called his coach after NSD and told him that UT was gonna honor his scholarship (which is offering him) to UT and also invited him to Junior Day on the 27th. Now all of a sudden, MacLain and his dad have went off the deep end. Heck, even MacLain's coach said today that he didn't agree with the MacLain's line of thinking.

You could tell the coach was trying not to throw the kid under the bus and also say that he didn't agree with the kid's interpretation of the situation.
