Eric MacLain Decommits

+1000 good lord people Dooley just closed our 2010 class as best as anyone else could and you are on him for this???? Let him evaluate the players and run the program...recruiting is not paramount right now, why don't you count the # of days until signing day instead of posting drivel like the OP

The problem is that there are a handful of people who think they know everything to the story and situation. They also think they can make better decisions than the staff (no matter who it is) and that they just think they know best.

even if that means screwing over all vol commits, ok, i'm with that, makes sense.....

Where does this, "let the coaches do their thing" end? How about they all go on vacation for a month or two... why not, we need to let them do their thing regardless of how it affects the perception of our football program. greeeeat idea.

I think you need to step away from the ledge my friend....

Seriously...this is what you're doing...

I know there's mulitple threads but I wanted my opinion known....

This kid was 150% diehard Vol and CDD can't call him but he can sign these 2/0 star recruits?

He must not have room for a 3/4 star TE/DT because he plans on signing 25+ 4 stars players that are better than MacLain.

And orange goggle wearers, please don't try to spin this, it's a fudge up on this staffs part plain and simple.

Sad series of events.

Epic Fail

Settle down dude!!!!
This staff obviously knows what they are doing. Case in point, Dooley was on staff for less than 3 weeks before he reeled in a #9 class. This guy knows what he is doing, as does Thompson and Chaney. If they are not heavily recruiting this kid, then there is other talent that may be better. We as fans need to be patient and learn to trust our coaches. This guy is a proven talent evaluator.

coaches can't comment on recruits, so we are only going to get one side of the story here. His coach was on sports talk and he said bagget said the scholarship offer was still good and that the coached wanted time to evaluate before they talked with him further. Sounds like they are trying to figure where this kid plays, te or tackle (sounds like tackle to me). They wanted to be able to be honest with him when they talked about where he projects. I like that. Could they have made a quick call? Sure, but what if the dad starts asking where they see his son playing and they are not ready to answer that question yet? Makes more sense to take some time and be able to have a real conversation with the kid.

I'm sorry, but it's been less than two weeks since signing day and cdd has been here a month and a couple days, why can't this kid wait a week or two? He's in tears because ut hasn't called him in this short a period of time? 17 yr old kids generally have a somewhat myopic view of the world and it's the job of a parent or coach to step in and say, "if your this concerned let's call them and tell them exactly how upset you are and that your thinking of looking elsewhere.". Guarantee coaches would have talked to him if they knew he was blowing the situation so far out of proportion in his mind. Big failure on the part of the parents and/or coach

you must not be a true fan....... nice take.

I've been found out. I'm a closet fan of Carson Newman(no wait, that's hopefully soon to be alum of CN :whistling::eek:lol:). I'm not worried if the coaching staff doesn't have a daily presser with the fans or whatever, but it makes me feel uncomfortable when I hear junior prospects as in the dark as some are. If we've learned anything from teams like Texas, etc. it is that you cannot get on these juniors too early. I'm truly hopeful that the staff is simply taking it's time to evaluate these kids and watching more tape that most humans can stand. Dooley closed fairly strong(having the 8 on campus and getting Rogers, Neal, and Stone helped), but I see a lot of prospects saying they are in the dark, and that can hurt us in today's recruiting wars. That's my only worry in this whole thing.

how on earth did this kid get screwed! Huh?*They reaffirmed his offer. They obviously wanted a little time to eval where hebprojects to play. A parent or coach needs to be a voice of reason and recognize this. You want the coaches to just call him and tell him whatever he wants to hear? " sure you'll play te at tn!". You want them to call and say "well, we don't really know where you will play.". You know the kid or dad will ask. Another example of bad guidance by adults around a kid.

It's one recruit. One! Settle down. Plenty of others out there that DD and staff will get.

Maclain, as good as he might be, will not make or break UT over the course of the next 4 years.

MacLain's coach just said on the sports animal that his phone has been ringing off the hook, including calls from Bama.

I'm gonna turn in Nick Saban right here. This is proof of multiple calls to a recruit during a dead period.

I don't care if he called his coach or the recruit, I don't need to know the rules to turn someone in. I like the fact that he is cheating and we'll still get him.

The problem is that there are a handful of people who think they know everything to the story and situation. They also think they can make better decisions than the staff (no matter who it is) and that they just think they know best.

What's there not to know? We know CDD has been calling other 2011 recruits.... yet he doesnt call his only 2011 commit? WTF?

"Well it seems CDD doesn't want MacLain...."
Then he should call and tell him that instead of taking a player he doesn't want and then not play him when there are obviously other top notch programs that want him. He owes him that especially given the amount of recruiting MacLain has done for UT and for being committed to UT for so long. He's been committed since his freshman year, a friggin blind gator fan would know this guy bleeds orange just off that info.

"Well it seems the CDD has been really busy getting the program in order, goshly, he's not even been on the job for two months, give him some time!"
He had enough time to call other 2011 recruits, but he didn't have time to call his only commitment?

Face it, CDD fudged up big time on this one. Completely mishandled IMO.

Yeah, you probably have all the facts. Why would anyone question you?

uh, you say, "I haven't had an opportunity to review the tape but my primary reason for making this call was to let you and your family know that we're going to do great things at the University of Tennessee and we want your son who has stuck by the program over the past couple years to be a part of that."

But if you don't want the kid, but don't want to look like an azz, you pull a Dooley and just not call him and hope he decommits. That may be how LSU or La. Tech does things, but our program is too prestigious to pull that kind of stunt IMO.

You know this is how it went down, or are you talkin out your ass?

That's a big cause for concern IMO as well.

Oh yeah that's exactly what a kid wants to hear. Baggett already told the coach exactly what you said. Baggett told the coach that he had an offer and that they were evaluating where he fit. The kid obviousle didn't want to hear that. This kid is blowing up and crying because cdd didn't call and say "we really like you!". This is ridicuous. This coach basically said that the situation is based on the kids perception and obviously didnt endorse that perception.
You can spin it how ever you want to, this is a kid who needs some guidance to give him a reasonable, adult perspective.

Its very early in the process, so no worries.

I think we'll find a class full of talented guys that love the University of Tennessee by NSD 2011.

If he wants to join, and CDD wants him, he'll be here.

Recruiting is a non stop 365 days a year job if you want to stay on top. Im not sure what the deal is with this kid but he is not the only one that has publicly stated that he hasnt heard from the staff. Im sure they know what they are doing. Its just bad pub when alot of top prospects publicly say they havent even heard from the staff. It is definitley going to take a while to get used to not getting three or four stories a day in the media out of this staff... We have been spoiled in that regard. I liked reading something new about my team everyday. Lets me get my mind off hectic things every now and again. Go Vols!
