ESPN: No Bowl for TN

I don't blame them. I wouldn't predict us for a bowl game either. We have to prove it against a tougher opponent than the AP.

I don't believe that. If UT went 9-3 this year lots of people would be saying WTF. lol

5-7, 7-5, 6-7, 5-7, 5-7 the past 5 seasons. Horrible defense last year, and we lost most of the production on offense. Anybody not wearing UT orange is going to doubt any high expectations that we as fans may have. I'm hopeful and optimistic, but they'll have to prove it on gameday that they deserve to go to a bowl game.

Ha! Find me the last team that trounced their first week opponent like we did and didn't make a bowl

:whistling:

Well Missouri won there first game last year 62-10 and did not make a bowl. Do you want more examples or will that one do?

Somethings are more important than covering the spread, like working on fundamentals and developing 2nd and 3rd string talent should duty call sooner rather than later.

And I agree with you. I was pointing out how the talking heads probably evaluate it. We are just a few injuries away from having those 2s and 3s play a pivotal role-- and they scored three points the entire second half against AP, a very weak opponent.

ESPN publishes Bowl predictions after week 1 games. Doesn't include TN as one of the 11 bowl teams from the SEC. Guess they weren't impressed with Butch and Company? This means they think TN will finish 13th in the SEC?

SEC bowl projections - ESPN

Calling for Ark, Vandy, Ole Miss, Mizzu, and Auburn - ALL finishing ahead of TN! Really?

ESPN Hates us.

They also said Arky would be the 1st team back to a bowl and USA Today had Auburn ahead of Vols. Really wish I could comprehend how they did the math on those.

The TN Vols need to take care of business winning their games first & earning respect again from those sports writers & TV big mouths that laugh at us. When we win the big games against those we all know & hate then we will be penciled in for the Bowl Games. We are nobody's right now. We have done nothing to prove we are that good. We have to get better for each week's opponent & win those games that come next that are up & not look ahead to the teams like Oregon & Florida & South Carolina etc...etc.

We won't get any respect until we either upset a couple of good teams or sign a couple of top 10 recruiting classes.

Mizzou is a good team, not great but their depth will be an issue by the time they play us in ColumbiaW.
I live in MO not far from Columbia. Their first team is not filled with SEC talent. They may be the least talented team in the SEC to include UK overall. I get no great pleasure saying it... but they are NOWHERE NEAR the upper tier or even middle tier of the SEC. They were a perennial mid-pack finisher in the Big 12 North... a terribly weak division. Not a lot has changed since.

Vandy was exposed on Defense and their QB had too many Pics.
Vandy's breakout year last year was an illusion. They played a weak schedule and a Vol team that had quit on its coach and season. They are good on neither O nor D.

Auburn was ok but very beatable. But they are the greatest threat to us of the three because I think they can get a lot better.
Auburn has talent. Chizik recruited well. Minus Newton... he's Dooley.

I honestly do not know what they have in Malzahn.

If we take it one game at a time we should win out in Nov.

Besides, we lead the Nation in Scoring Defense!

Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Yeah and especially considering that Sal made Akron and Troy look credible and Vanderbilt look like an offensive juggernaut. Amazingly, UT's lowest points allowed to an FBS school last year was 17. They year prior a D made up of mostly the same players but a year younger avg'd allowing only 22.6.

We will know if we get a bowl game sometime around Thanksgiving. Why are you guys getting all spun up over ESPN projections. They are the same network that after the first week of baseball season were wondering whether or not the Red Sox should be in panic mode....

WhoGAS what ESPN thinks?

Sounds right to me. Nothing I saw from us this weekend leads me to believe we win six games.

I don't watch ESPN but did they at any point this weekend mention the 800 milestone? It would not surprise me if they did not. It at least deserves some recognition. They don't have to kiss our arse but it would be nice to see something. Iif our Jersey change earlier in the summer gets mentioned with in a few hours of release then 800 wins should be seen somewhere.

I love my Vols to death, but honestly I think we'll be very lucky to win 6 games. I know many on here think that's absurd...but seriously. I mean if you take an honest look at our talent compared to 90 percent of the SEC....we're hurting. It's simply where we are right now. I have grave concerns about this offense making much noise this year. Our QB looks very average as do our WRs. I honestly think we're in for another long season. Hopefully help is on the way!! Go Vols! I honestly hope I'm wrong...but I'm pretty sure I'm right.
