ESPN thinks we go 4-8 next year

Things will be getting better little by little,I've got faith in CBJ. Imagine the situation the Vols might be in now if Tennessee would have beaten South Carolina and Mississippi State in 2012 and finished 7-5.

If that had happened we wouldn't have CBJ because Doofus wouldn't have been fired.

ESPN predicts we go 4-8 next year and win only 1 conference game.

6. Tennessee Volunteers
Projected finish: 4-8 (1-7)
Chance to win SEC: 0 percent
Chance to finish 11-1 or 12-0: 0 percent

"Program progress is measured by most in terms of wins and losses, but Tennessee fans would be wise to focus on other signs of improvement this season. Why? The schedule may be too burdensome for that improvement to show up in the win column. The Volunteers face Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Missouri and South Carolina -- all five of which rank among the top 20 in our projected FEI rankings (out Monday on Insider) and three of which rank among the short list of legitimate national championship contenders. Tennessee's defense is the biggest liability to pulling upsets in any of these games, as it allowed explosive drives (averaging at least 10 yards per play) on 18 percent of opponent possessions last season."

Projecting 2014 SEC team records, division rankings - College Football - ESPN

I have us projected as going 5 - 7 and missing a bowl game, but 4 - 8 still has us missing a bowl game.

Goal # 1: Bowl game (6 - 6)

Goal # 2: Winning record and a better bowl game.

Goal # 3: Represent the S.E.C. East in the S.E.C. Championship game.

Goal # 4: Win S.E.C. Championship

Goal # 5: Qualify for the 4 team play off game

Goal # 6: Advance past the 1st round in the play off game.

Goal # 7: Win the National Champoinship

With a 4 - 8 record or a 5 - 7 record, we will still miss the 1st goal.

There is ZERO chance this happens. No way. If so, we have major, major issues. But there is no way this happens.

Im not mad at the prognosticators who pick against us, we are relying on brand new OL and DL, and a bunch of freshmen, with one of the toughest schedules in the country.
What I dont see is the love affair with USC, I have seen a lot of ppl pick them, and I dont get it. They loose Shaw, Clowney, and Ellington im not sure many teams can bounce back from those losses. Not to mention its time USC comes back to earth a little.

If it all falls apart due to the brand new OL and DL, I can see 4-8. If it all comes together I can see the ceiling at 7-5. Prepare for a challenging year, don't go all knee jerk and call for Butch's ouster when things go bad, and realize that 2015 is the year we actually turn the corner and look like a team worthy of contending for an SEC title IMO.

you do realize Maggit and Vereen are going to be one of the faster DE combos in the league, along with JRM at LB,who will be light years faster than Sapp...

Maggit at DE? Is is too undersized for DE, but he will be much better at LB than what was out there last year. I really like JRM as well, but he did not play much on defense (although he looked great on special teams). I am actually not as concerned about an inexperienced OL as I am the defense. I think a fresh start on the O-line was in our best interest.

from reading posts in various threads, the only conclusion one would be able to reach is that no one is going to win the sec east because all the teams in the division suck.

Let's face it, winning the East is little more than a Miss Congeniality prize at this point.

It could happen. USC will fall back into the pack with inexperienced QB and defense. Georgia will be average with new QB and poor defense,8-9 wins at most for the Dawgs.

USC is pretty much bringing one of the only QBs in to start with game experience.

They also return a lot, it's just that they lose 2-3 big names. They've also won 11 games 3 straight seasons in a row, so it's not like it was a small one-year spike.

Unless the East is absolute garbage all around, the winner is going to have more than 8 wins; they will likely be in the double digits

Thompson is plenty experienced.

kind of funny that espn knows nothing about tennessee, but volnation knows everything about the rosters of the sec east, isn't it.

Florida will be looking for a new coach when Muschamp gets s**t canned after winning 5-6 games.

I think some people do a little more research than ESPN. Most SEC fans know alot more about the league and it's personnel than some national writer who tries to cover everyone.

And it took Spurrier about 5-6 years at USCjr to start winning at that level, which is the trajectory I see Butch having here at UT.
