240+ is not too small for a DE. They dont all weigh 270. Elvis Dumervil was too small too.

USCe had no consistent history of winning. They hired a guy with a long history of winning at a high level.

Simply put, Jones won't nor should he get a leash as long as the one Spurrier got. If he goes 4-8 or even 5-7 then he'll be on a VERY hot seat and need a serious improvement next year to save his job.

I agree with you historically.
As long as you ignore his debacle as Washington's head coach which was a complete disaster.

Follow that by some pretty average seasons at USC with recruiting and winning percentage.

They year before they went 11-2 many thought the Spurrier experiment had run it's course.

So no, I suppose Butch should not get a 7 year leash. Four years though is fair considering the attrition and losing seasons we've endured here.


addendum; Lou Holtz went 33-37 during his tenure after going 0-11 in his first year. Spurrier didn't actually take over a dumpster fire.

If Tennessee loses 8 games they will be the most underachieving team in the country,and probably looking for coaches,also.

If Jones is on the hot seat after 5-7 in his second year of a major rebuilding project in the toughest conference in football, facing one of the most difficult schedules in the league, and replacing virtually everyone on both sides of the line, then our fan base's football IQ has hit rock bottom.

I agree from our perspective, but I think due to defensive packages the coaches seem happy with Maggit at DE providing edge rush with Vereen and JRM and AJ as the 2 linebackers. I'd expect to see a 4-2-5 defense a good chunk of the time other than 1st down or nickel and dime packages.

I dunno, I mean I am just making an assumption.

Folks on here will probably be calling for his head. I think that will be a given if UT has 4-5 wins going into the UK game.:crazy:

I felt totally 8-4 optimistic last year until I walked into Autzen Stadium and saw the talent difference between the top 10 teams and Tennessee.. we still wont beat those types..however Tennessee cant be any worse this year;I believe that Florida was then and is now beatable,Utah State and Arkansas State are about equal to WKU,and Missouri and Vandy are totally winnable..4-8 is just some ******* reading the schedule and writing in Ws and Ls out at the end.
