ESPN thinks we go 4-8 next year

I like this post but I hope that person who was late on Christmas was REALLY late. I have fired many and some during the Holidays but that is my least favorite aspect of my business.

IMO Dooley mailed it in and violated his contract by being negligent in his duties. We shouldn't have even paid the guy towards the end. If one is qualified then EFFORT is paramount and that is where CBJ seems to shine.

I hope Jones doesn't get to that point and really do not expect him to... but if he goes 5-7 again this fall then has a bad enough record in '15 around game 7 to know he is going to be fired... then we'll really know how he would react.

Again. I really don't expect it but it was a tough situation for someone to be in. Hart should have fired him.

FTR, Mustafa.... I said before Dooley's last year that he should have to prove he can beat someone who matters or he should be fired. I started saying he should be fired after the USCe game. There was no one left on the schedule good enough to prove Dooley would ever compete with the better coaches and teams in the SEC.

Hart shouldn't have waited. If there were contract issues then they could have suspended him with pay to get out of the season. (I seem to remember there were some dates on Dooley's contract that made him more expensive to fire before some time in December.

All those multi quote answers convinced me. Poor Dooley was so depressed. You obviously know this as you have a degree in Quackology. I do feel bad for him now, to be so depressed that you quit on a whole state and University and yet you keep going to collect a pay check and tell nobody. Poor guy. I hope the paychecks he collects over the next 5 years will soothe his soul. He will be in my prayers. As for me I will repent for my heart of stone and maybe by your grace I will someday be forgiven.

My point is, losing to bad Wake Forest team at home is every bit as embarrassing (if not more so) than getting absolutely torched by a top ranked Oregon team on the road. With the way we played most weeks last season, either instance would be a distinct possibility (though neither situation should happen to a team filled 3 & 4 star athletes and an actual high quality coaching staff).

Dude, if you think that pile of crap we put on the field was legit three and four star talent, I've got some ocean front desert property to sell you. Our defense has been the slowest in the sec for years. :eek:lol:

Which is more likely - multiple recruiting services just happened to miss on every one of the 15-20 4 stars on our roster last year, or our coaches failed to develop their talent?

Name these 15-20, it's the only fair way to proceed. Then we can talk about each player seperately.

RB: two four stars.

Neal-produced like a 4 star should, despite being a 3 star.

Lane-produced like a backup RB should.

So, you agree we beat you guys and get manhandled the rest of the season... What does that say about your team? lol

I said the exact same thing and got no response from him. I guess it's hard to swallow that your team is picked to lose to another team that is predicted to finish 4-8.

Note that OV didn't lay ALL of it at the feet of the current staff. They bear some blame but the bulk of the poor development was on Dooley.

Wr: I'm sure I missed someone here

Croom-to early to tell.

Bowles- to early, but leaning towards a bust

Pig-plays like a 4 star should

North-plays like a 5 star

TEs:

No 4 stars

Oline:

Tiny, Stone, and James: all four stars, all played like four stars.

Most of our 4 stars from last year played like 4 stars should. We just didn't have enough of them.

Despite that great conference...
Despite that rich history...

There is ESPN calling it at 4-8.

Other than the well-documented Florida/Bama/ESPN Love Affair conspiracy theory, are any of you guys ever gonna question why?

I always figured UT fans were a little sharper than this... LSU fans, I figured just say, "Chit, ESPN, dunno nothin". You guys can do better.

I can easily figure out why it won't happen. Because it has NEVER happened in the history of our school. Simple answer.

Florida has been fortunate to have hired SOS and CUM in the last 25 years. Prior to 1990, Florida's history was meh.....Whoever is coaching Florida must hope for a mediocre FSU and Miami. If Miami is a surging powerhouse, Florida's efforts to recruit south Florida will be thwarted. Florida's sustained level of success for 25 years was unprecedented in this league. I'm not sure they will ever return to that level of consistency. They may be more up and down like most teams with exception of Bama have become. And frankly, I think Saban has won his last national title. I see Alabama settling into a more up and down program. This league is too tough to dominate.....

Florida doesnt need to recruit South Florida..they can fill a roster twice over with recruits from Jacksonville to Tampa..I lived there and have seen the talent gap there personally, this is not withstanding the FIU and the FAU effect on the state.

Some people lack the ability to reason.
Did UT have a CHOICE whether it played Vandy or UGA?
No!!
It did have a choice as to whether it played Oregon. And a program in the state it was, while also dealing with a formiddible schedule didn't need to go on the road and get pounded by a top 5 team.
Technically, any one loss from last year cost a bowl. Yet, had UT scheduled Pacific, it would have gone to a bowl. Period end of story. UT has the same situation with Oklahoma. UT has 5 losing seasons in the last 7 years. That has to stop, and scheduling OOC games like this is not helping.

Well maybe we table it way down the road...but these games ALREADY SCHEDULED will be played...start dealing with it. :yu:

So let's say UT ditches Oregon and plays Pacific and everything else stayed the same. Would you really feel that much better about the UT program by playing in the Liberty bowl against Rice or BBVA Compass Bowl against Houston?

UT still would have looked inept against Florida. Gotten hammered against Bama, Auburn, & Mizzou and still lost to Vandy.

Just because UT goes to a 3rd tier bowl doesn't make the season a success when you look at where you stack up against the rest of the SEC.

After the last few seasons, I wouldn't call it a "success" per se. However, I would call going to a bowl game progress (it's obviously a better record than last season and continued success in recruiting depends on progress). So by itself, no it's not true "success" but I can't wait to see how we recruit once we get back to more Ws than Ls.

Bowl practice would of helped our program a lot.

That's a pretty good answer and I agree with you. It's a step in the right direction but it doesn't define the entire season a success just because you went to a bowl game.

It's like accepting a passing grade from a kid that is clearly capable of making A's & B's. Did they move on to the next grade, yes. Was it a success, no.
