Hmmm.... I don't think they are calling them 30 for 30s anymore, are they? The Steve Bartman one was never advertised as a 30 for 30 film that I saw.

I just assumed they were done with the 30 for 30s and I missed like 60% of them.

You're right. They're not 30 for 30 anymore. Just, "ESPN Films presents..."

Same marketing and film series over and above the original 30.

I thought the production quality could have been a little better, but my favorite is still The Guru of Go.

I was listening to Bill Simmons(who produces them) pod cast and he was a little peeved at ESPN over them dropping the name. He said something to the effect that ESPN had built the brand for 30for30 and then decided to change it. The reason for changing the name is the exceed the planned 30 documentaries. They probably should've came up with a better name to start with.

What is everyone's favorite 30 for 30?

Mine was The 2 Escobars. And I don't even like soccer.

In no order:

The U
Pony Excess
The Best that Never was
The Two Escobars
Without Bias
Winning Time
The Fab Five

I just love what Simmons has done with these shows altogether. They are talking about making more under the 30 for 30 title (which technically the last 5 or so have been)

Also, OSU-Michigan is the biggest rivalry in college football. End of story.

I know most Vols fans could care less, but if you have ever lived in Alabama you'll understand the tag line "If you live in Alabama, you have to pick a side." There is no getting away from that, you cannot just be a UT fan, you have to choose one team or the other.

My family mostly lives in Alabama and yeah, they are pretty much all Bammers. Almost killed my grandma when I decided to go to UT. Anyway, I have been fortunate to have been to about a dozen Iron Bowls, and as much as I love UT football, there is honestly nothing like Auburn Bama.

Looking forward to this documentary tonite. What I expect is that the rednecks from Bama will be highlighted, and that the class Auburn represents will also show through.

And the OSU-Michigan rivalry is a dead letter anyway. Putting them in opposite divisions will see to that. In 15 years OSU and Michigan students will look at it as an old man's game like Tennessee-Alabama.

Remember ESPN's movie about Bobby Knight, Season on the Brink?

I may be mistaken, but I think that ended up being ESPN's only dramatized movie.
They definitely found their niche with these sports documentaries.
The depth of the series is the best part about the 30 for 30s, to me. There's something for every sports fan in that series.

They also did Junction Boys and one about the West Point cheating scandal (The Long Gray Line maybe?)

Hmmm. I couldn't stand the Uof M self promotion. And I really got into the Petrovic/Divac one.

Missed quite a few I think, but as a die-hard Baltimore Colts fan from back in the day, I loved that one.

Oh, and the Reggie Miller/Knicks one stunk it up bigtime.

They need to work on the tag line, "what if I told you" doesn't work for everything.

Well sorry to break this to you, but in this case its the absolute truth. You are not allowed to live or work in the state of Alabama and avoid choosing sides, they will hounds you until you decide. Most right thinking newcomers go with Auburn.

Run Ricky Run has been my favorite, because it's the only one that's actually made me reconsider my opinion about something.

And the only reason younger Tennessee and Alabama fans don't consider each other bigger rivals is it's been quite a while since both teams were consistently good. Fulmer was peaking during the Mike and Mike/Hurricane Dennis mess, and was in full decline when Saban came to T-town.

It is, but the main issue with it is that Auburn isn't quite in that top tier of all-time great programs.

Bigger historical rivalries than the Iron Bowl, IMO, no particular order...

USC v Notre Dame
Ohio State v Michigan
Army v Navy
Harvard v Yale
Texas v Oklahoma

I've been told many times both on this board and in real life that it's dumb to consider Alabama as our biggest rival because it's not a division game; the Florida and Georgia games are more important. Which is impossible to refute, because they're right. The ups and downs of both programs has been a factor, but the biggest thing is the inexorable logic of division races. OSU fans will start fixating on Wisconsin and UM fans will start thinking a lot about Sparty and Nebraska. They'll have to start rooting for each other sometimes when they play each other's division rivals. Over time it's going to defang that rivalry significantly.

Best way to handle the move to divisions was to keep them in the same division and leave the game at the end of the year. Like Alabama and Auburn.

those are big games, but they don't live amongst each other 356 days a year, and u know college football in the south is bigger than anywhere else. I would agree with the Army Navy game but I'm guessing they still respect each other after the game, they fight for the same cause

I agree, in an ideal world I would love to limit conferences to ten teams, no divisions and a round-robin schedule. Never been a fan of divisions. But, if they're going to have divisions, they could do it right.

Fine if they hate each other more, but I think historical significance of both programs involved has to come in at some point, and there are at least a dozen and a half programs historically better than Auburn, including all the ones listed above.
