Great for my school. I'm happy we are finally getting football back and hopefully doing it right this time!

You gonna miss a UT game to watch ETSU? Doubt it. And not many people will which is why this is going to fall flat on its face...again

I don't see it falling on it's face any more than the other 1-AA teams in Tennessee. UT by and large is still going to be the predominate team in the State, but I think ETSU could have a pretty loyal following especially in the Tri-cities area.

Yeah, because it did so well last time.

They got rid of it for a reason. This whole thing is a giant waste on time and money. I just graduated from ETSU last year and it seems like the only people who want football are the people in charge. 70% of the students do not want football. There are many buildings on campus that need to be renovated. Many buildings have serious HVAC issues. But no...just pour a ton of money into football that no one wants. Just sucks that the students are fitting the bill for a large portion of it.

They can certainly get lots of high end D2 prospects that would never sniff D1 otherwise for the next few years. Lots of those guys are better than some think, but it'll be years before they do anything of worth, just how it is though.

They had some success the first time, they had a football program for a very long time, there were a lot of programs in worse shape than them that didn't quit.

This is still college football. It is played on Saturdays. Thet might get one or two Thursday/Friday games but the majority will be played on Saturday.

If I was a parent who didn't make a lot of money. If I wanted to take my boys out for a father and son outing. I would probably be able to do 3 etsu games compared to 1 UT game. I'll take them to ETSU to spend some quality time.

Making money wasn't really why they got rid of it in the first place...title IX is. Same situation with a lot of small schools around the nation.

I don't see many division 1 schools dropping football.

False. I went to Tech and (at least when I was there) all of our home games, except homecoming, were played Thursday nights.

ETSU got rid of football because they had a president who hated it. He had tried once before to kill it and wasn't able to. He went though 3(qualified) AD's in about 6 years before he finally gave up and hired the tennis coach as AD so he would have a yes man who would agree killing football was a good idea. ETSU got a new president, he ran off the tennis coach and started working from day 1 to bring back football.

No, it was the money.

Title IX only requires that there be an equal number of men's and women's sports. Which is why a lot of football schools have to drop a sport like men's wrestling.

Believe me, if football had been making money for ETSU, they could've easily found something else to drop for Title IX.

They cut football because of the state budget situation at the time. All state entities were required to make across the board financial cuts. ETSU decided that it was simpler to cut football for a major portion of that cost slashing rather than smaller cuts across more areas. The turf in the dome was due to be replaced at that time, and that expense alone was significant and without football it was not a necessity to replace.

If they schedule the games right and have home games on weekends that UT is on the road and off set the times they will be fine. I know I will be takin my boys to ETSU games as often as I can. It's like the OP said its quality time with my boys and a lot cheaper.

I know for a fact it was money. ETSU wasn't just in the red, they weren't just drowning, they had already drowned and they were beginning to drown the other sports programs. ETSU has to deal with the Vols, the Hokies and Appy St all being withing 100 miles of them. It wasn't Paul Stanton hating football, it was Paul Stanton hating having a university that couldn't make money.

It's way too difficult to pull that off season after season, especially when the Southern Conference is in charge of scheduling conference games. Plus, it's not just Tennessee that causes problems.

My understanding is they will be playing at Science Hill for 2 years? Anyone know for sure?
