ETSU first class

Lol at everyone saying buc games are going to interfere with ut games. If Butch does what he's supposed to then UT will be playing most of their games at 3:30, 7 or 8. Etsu can kick off at 12 and people can still have plenty of time to get home or to a bar for UT kick-off.

They could also work their schedule so they're away while UT is home and home games when UT is away as much as possible. This isn't rocket surgery people.

People hate noon games a UT. How many people would show up for a noon game at ETSU? Probably not very many.

How can you schedule your games when your conference is responsible for scheduling the location 9 of them?

They also have to compete with nearby Carson Newman for recruits, etc. :)

Can't wait to see what their first schedule looks like. Guess their first games will be in 2015, probably. Will they still play in the Southern Conference? If they win more than 3 games the first year, it would be interesting. Lots of local people in the Tri-Cities area and southwestern Virginia will attend the games.

Because most people are driving 1-2 hours and battling traffic to get to Knoxville. Doubt etsu is gonna pull anyone beyond the tri cities. Wake up at 11 and roll to the game at 12. something fun to do with the kids and still home in time to watch the vols.

Solid point. Hadn't thought of that. However I'm sure they could express that concern to the conference office to be accommodated as much as possible. They can still adjust game times to avoid as much conflict as possible.

I'd rather compete for a national title in D2 or NAIA over getting my ass stomped for 4 years at a D1 school, but that's just me.

If you don't want football at your college or alma mater, you have a problem. Football will do wonders for ETSU, it needs it back. As someone who goes to UT, but has family at ETSU, it's the best decision they could've made. There is no school spirit at ETSU, changing that will generate revenue.

yeah, because the last time they had football, the place was just oozing with school spirit.

Want to know how to 'Generate Revenue'--- Plays 2 Big-Time schools a year. Then your gate prices and things can make it easier to get people there, the community will show up if you recruit the area right and do such things as gate giveaways, ticket special, and make an interactive environment. I know ETSU is not in the best situation for building a fan base, but Chattanooga and UT Martin have teams? Tennessee Tech too? And I'm sure those programs generate revenue.

no, they don't generate revenue. They have teams anyway. Recruit locally and lose big! Great strategy.

I guess I have a problem. I don't want my alma mater throwing away millions on a football program that the students have already said they didn't want and a program that has already failed once.

I am an ETSU alum. I was a student when the football program got axed. The mini dome stunk, literally. No one cared about the team and it was absolutely a drain on the school. The very next semester after it was gone the improvements started. New computers, class rooms with suites of new tech, the dorms improved. My wife is a current student and the improvements mentioned in this thread are absolutely true. It's amazing it took so long to get a parking garage. It didn't go before and nothing has changed to make me think it will go now. They let the students vote on it a while back and they voted against it. The University went around the student body and brought it back. I live in JC, no one is talking about the new football team...no one.

This is the part that bothers me. They let the students vote on the situation and associated fees. When they didn't get the answer they wanted, they just did what they wanted. I like the idea as an alumnus of having a football team, but I won't support it for this very reason. That, and it has Fulmer's footprints on it.

Football programs are expensive, and until (and unless) the program operates in the black, then the money to support it has to come from somewhere. If there's no real support from the alums, students, or community, then this is going to end up being a big hole that swallows a lot of money. Again.

I just don't see an FBS or FCS market in Johnson City. Why not try NAIA, or Div III? You can always move up in class when the time is right, but one more failed go at a football program could be the death knell for football at ETSU.
