Evaluating Martin's recruiting

Davis has shown flashes, the consistency and commitment have been the question. The talent is no doubt there, if he puts forth the effort he has all-sec abilities.
Really think JR is ahead of Sr going into college as far as skill and talent.
Size and toughness will be the question?
Bulk him up. and let Maymon mentor him.

Hope this ring true this time. Last time I heard something like this was when 'Swiperboy' was coming in.

Ya just never know til it's in the oven.
His problems with ratings are because he's had a hard time establishing his own identity.
Did he want to follow dad as a post or make his own name as a wing.
Hopefully he decides early under Martin.
I'm hoping he decides on the post and fills out.
His dad played at 210-220 in college then ballooned to 240 in the pros.
Hope Christopher can get him to an athletic 225-230 by season 2.

Christopher should steal a page from the movie "The Program". But instead of making the kid carry the ball around campus, make him carry a 45 lb plate. lol

I didn't realize it, but he played at 225 this season.
Here's a little preseason (12-13) write up by his coach:

Noteworthy: The son of former NBA player Antonio Davis averaged 12.7 points and 5.9 rebounds last season, his first at Buford after transferring from Greater Atlanta Christian. He won state titles his first two seasons at GAC, playing key minutes as a freshman and averaging 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds as a sophomore.
Coach Allen Whitehart's take: "Off the basketball court, A.J. is laid-back and outgoing, just one of the guys. He has never met a stranger. On the court, A.J. is much more aggressive. He has a well-rounded skill set, he can score and affect the game from different angles. He is 6-8 and can create off of the dribble for himself or set teammates up like a guard. On the flip side, he can use his size and be a matchup problem in the post versus smaller defenders. I think his ability to pass the ball and create for his teammates are his most overlooked strengths as a basketball player. I'm excited to watch him continue to grow as a person and a player this season. I think his best basketball is in front of him."

Sounds promising. And Christopher can make him bigger and stronger.

"I have a friend that works in the AD at Charleston Southern. D'montre Edwards is from Charleston and was a high school teammate of one of their best players. *He contacted them about transferring there assuming he can graduate from Tennessee. *My friend said his understanding was that he would have to graduate to be eligible next year. *There's one way the numbers might work themselves out."

Notice on Reece's offer list that he was initially offered by FGCU. I wouldnt mind seeing him follow Andy Einfield.

Lol. Martin has reached on most of his guys and now you want to pretend he is recruiting well WHILE hoping they transfer.

Reached? Edwards, and Washpun are the only ones that looked like that haven't panned out. Idk where you're getting that from but ok. People like you are why people have to defend Martin. People complained after his first class and after last years even when we got Stokes. We have two winning seasons and didnt make the NCAA tourney ok fine complain. We still signed 4 top 150-200 players this year but yet still complain. I don't get it. I'm sure you're in that group that thinks Hubbs is going to be a bust along with the other recruits.

That's not entirely accurate.......I would say that Richardson and stokes are the only two that have worked out so far.....do some of the others show varying degrees of potential sure but that's not close to working out.

Our class this yr shows more potential than any class he has assembled yet but it's far from a great class. Next recruiting class is extremely important and hopefully Martin will keep improving as a recruiter.

Reece and cheivous have 0 upside. Complete reaches. Moore and Richardson are role players. We are supposed to celebrate Martin getting 1 that can change a game in 2 recruiting. As far as this class, Hubbs is a good get. None of the others are in anyone that I know ofs top 150. Dont know that anyone even ranks a full top 200 so that is complete speculation.

Well, damn, may as well just throw in the towel now shouldn't we?

I would have said McRae had 0 upside after his freshman year a few years ago. Freshmen don't show their full potential.

I'm the only one around here that defends Reese.
Kid has plenty of potential as a role player.
Should never have played this season, but Martin had to burn his red shirt until McBee and McRae got their heads out of their a$$es and started playing basketball.
The kid lost 15 pounds of muscle because of his injury.
Wasn't strong enough to see the floor.

I agree with this. You have potential when you can hit the 3 at 6'8". Needs to add weight and work on a quicker release. To me, he has kind of a set shot. But I wouldn't dismiss Reese as a total non contributor.

The second part of your third sentence X 100

Other than that gathering dust release, he has shown an upside. Only the pouty, like to argue, only happy when I'm bit&$'n crowd thinks Reese or Chievous are busts.
