Evan Russell not available tonight (Friday) now AVAILABLE

I read about what it would take to make that happen and here's what I found:

A lawyer would have to prove that ESPN knew they were lying when they said Evan was using PEDs and then prove damages from the lie. I think that would be hard to do because how do you prove what someone knew (or not) at a certain time.
The persons doing the broadcast will never say so, but they knew this was a very bad source in which to quote something.

Let me tell you about anxiety and panic attacks...
I’ve always been laid back, easy going and let things slide right off my back. Well, about a year ago I started having trouble sleeping. I would lay awake with a million thoughts running through my head and my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest.
I would get terrible headaches.
One day, at work, as everything was fine and it was a normal day, I truly thought I was having a heart attack. It was extremely scary. My heart was pounding, chest was tight and I was sweating like crazy, all out of nowhere!
Long story short, after several hours at the hospital and numerous tests, apparently after 42 years, I now suffer from anxiety and panic attacks!
It is real and it can be very scary and hard to understand.
I hope Evan knows that Vol nation understands and is behind him 110%!

We have a lot in common, friend. I’ve dealt with anxiety and panic attacks since 06/07 when I was working in mortgage financing and the housing market collapsed. It‘s why I went back to school and decided to teach. Life is hard. The challenges people face. The pressure.. It can feel immense. I can and also can’t imagine the level of pressure he’s feeling right now. This i know. VOLNATION IS GOING TO MAKE HIM FEEL THE LOVE LOUD AND CLEAR today. There’s no shame in saying you struggle with anxiety or stress, or depression. We can only get help when we acknowledge it. I applaud him for it. Now, I’m going to pop my anxiety pill and go fight for a ticket to the game tonight LOL

Tony had an NCAA tournament game to prepare for, after learning about Evan for the first time that very morning. I'm convinced - putting myself into his shoes - that he was just too busy preparing for the game to stop and talk to the media about Evan, so he told them he'd address it afterward. Which is a logical thing to do. It isn't his fault that there is a sewer out there called Twitter and there are idiots in the sports media.
I’m convinced that he cares too much about Evan and has enough respect for his catcher/team leader, not to air his personal issues to the media, along with getting his team prepared for a game.

I have a background in mental health counseling.

The mental health of student athletes is an important topic in the college sports realm right now. I realize this is a sensitive issue, but sadly, several D1 student athletes from across sports have committed suicide in the past several months. They are under more pressure than we can ever realize. If Evan is focusing on his mental health, I hope he is getting the help and support needed.

Glad to know that Evan has been cleared to play today. Anxiety, stress, and pressure can be crippling at times and should be taken seriously. As I said last night, these student athletes are under more pressure than we realize. While we all want to see Evan play, his mental health should be the first priority. It seems like he’s receiving the help and support he needs. Thankful for this. It’s really a shame that he and his family had to endure speculation, misinformation, rumors, and criticism over the past 24 hours.

Let this be a reminder for all of us to be very cautious when sharing information - regardless of the “source” - just to satisfy the immediate need to know right now.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. My husband also suffers from anxiety attacks - we now know how to deal with them but when they first started, very scary. He, like you, has always been pretty laid back; the first episode happened on our way to see his dad, who wasn‘t feeling well. We also went to the hospital because we thought he might be having a heart attack…

I’m glad Jason, his dad, cleared it up. I hope some of you are truly ashamed of where you went with a young man who has been nothing but a perfect example of a teammate and a Vol from day one. He needs our prayers and support.
@preacherman20
I don’t know if you will, but if you happen to see that young man today, throw your arm around him and tell him there are a lot of people thinking about him, praying for him and rooting for him!!

ESPN needs on air apology and a run it with red script at the bottom of the screen all day....and that is still not enough.
I am trying to figure out what the response will be from ESPN.
We are sorry for our mistake? Admit Guilt
We are sorry for not checking and confirming a twitter rumor. Admits Creditibily issues.
We want to apologize for defaming on of the best Teams in College Baseball History and the Tennessee program for a lack of responsible Journalism and reporting.
Do they throw Elkland under the bus?
Do they fear a lawsuit?

I guess they are still working on a proper response that clears them of a lawsuit, protects the fact that they used a twitter fan as a source without checking or verifying the source.

The announcer could have stated a rumor is but make a huge mistake when he stated PEDs, the University of Tennessee Team, The NCAA is Testing and the list goes on.

The fact that he didn't state a reliable source nor did he state that it is rumored on twitter to clarify or that it is an Arkansas fan that stated it is damning to the Announcer and ESPN.

What's worse is that the Arkansas Fan that tweeted this crap is loving the Attention.

Waiting for the response from ESPN.....

I think TV and his teammates did the right thing by not sharing until his family decided to share.
HIPPA prevents it also.

That is why I did not worry about it knowing that TV was addressing it after the Game.

Felt like it was a medical condition, that could not be released until permission granted to discuss...

Honestly, I don’t really care what their response is and couldn’t care less if they even have one.
Anyone with a head on their shoulders, who follows this team and calls themselves a Vol fan, should’ve known that the rumors about Evan, were completely outrageous!
GBO!!

@Sudden Impact that came across as snarky and directed at you. It was not intended that way at all. I was just trying to point out that I quit caring about what ESPN has to say, a long time ago.

@preacherman20 Ditto - I know I’ve grown to love these kids like they‘re my own.

I guess my point is lying isn't new. People have been doing it since the beginning of time. The problem is people don't look into if someone is intentionally lying which this specific Twitter account was and was easy to spot if anyone just looked into it

Yes but it's gotten worse via social media. The unrelenting spread of false info online has been a problem for sometime, but moreso Facebook and Twitter. And yes, it happens elsewhere, but it's magnified online, and many times when you see a fake story on tv somewhere, it originated on social media, which is also what happened in this scenario. And when people repeat fake stories without verifying first, it's because they're seeing something they want to be true. I'm amazed at how people will believe literally anything they see online if it's something that backs up their POV. It happens all the time with politics and it's clearly what happened here given the guy is an Arkansas grad and homer.

I don't know the answers to your questions except the last one. I guarantee you they fear a lawsuit.

Like I’ve always said, nobody cares about Tennessee athletics except for Tennessee fans. So why should we care what everyone else thinks of us? Us against the world mentality.

I do care about the ESPN response, I want them under our thumb....
I have a chip on my shoulder about ESPN and their treatment for our University over the past decades.
ESPN lays in wait for US to slip up and pounces and it has been that way for a while.

As for the Broadcasted Statement regarding Evan and the Team, it was outrageous and Vol Fans should have known better, some did some didn't. Never thought it was anything but Medical and that it could not be disclosed because of HIPPA.

We may never know what happen but that is ok also....As stated Life is more important than baseball....
